State Department For Wildlife Kenya
The State Department for Wildlife places great emphasis on partnerships and collaboration as key drivers of conservation success. In advancing Kenya’s conservation agenda, @PSMuseiya, dedicated much of the day engaging with key partners and stakeholders of the Department. She underscored that effective partnerships are central to achieving sustainable conservation outcomes, reiterating the Department’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with government institutions, NGOs, development partners, and the private sector to unlock innovation, mobilize resources, and scale up impactful conservation initiatives across the country. The Principal Secretary emphasized that strategic partnerships play a critical role in enhancing wildlife protection, restoring vital ecosystems, promoting community-based conservation, and supporting sustainable livelihoods that align conservation with socio-economic development. She further noted that through strengthened collaboration, the sector can harness research, technology, and knowledge exchange to effectively address emerging challenges such as climate change, human-wildlife conflict, and biodiversity loss. She expressed sincere appreciation to all partners for their unwavering support and continued commitment to safeguarding Kenya’s natural heritage for present and future generations. ##plan2action #4wildlifeandpeople

Ever since I assumed office as the Principal Secretary in the State Department for Wildlife, I have immensely benefited from the fountain of knowledge, experience and wisdom of astute ladies and gentlemen who are champions in the conservation sector. In pursuit of strengthening Kenya's conservation agenda, I spent the better part of the day actively engaging some of the State Department's key partners and friends in this endeavour. Formidable partnerships and collaboration are the bedrock of sustainable conservation and therefore, we are always open to working closely with government agencies, NGOs, and the private sector to achieve mutual goals. Profound gratitude to you all! #plan2action #4wildlifeandpeople

Convention on Migratory Species (CMS)
Today is #WorldWetlandsDay. 💧🌿 Wetlands sustain rich biodiversity and are closely tied to the knowledge, practices and traditions of Indigenous Peoples and local communities. Traditional knowledge helps guide how we protect wetlands now and for the future, supporting inclusive, community-led conservation. Wetlands are also essential for migratory species. For migratory birds, they are critical stopover sites and breeding and wintering habitats. Protecting wetlands means protecting the journeys that connect countries, cultures and wildlife. 🐦 Learn more on #WWD2026 via @RamsarConv and at worldwetlandsday.org

As the year draws to a close, we are reminded of a heartbreaking discovery made weeks ago at Leopard Beach, Kwale County, where a whale was found dead. A postmortem conducted by KWS Veterinarian Dr. Asuka Takita revealed a plastic container lodged in its intestine. 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐥𝐞 𝐠𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐝𝐢𝐝 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐝𝐢𝐞 𝐛𝐲 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 - 𝐢𝐭 𝐝𝐢𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐬 𝐚 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐮𝐥𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐡𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐩𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧. Plastic waste in the ocean persists for years, drifting and sinking through marine ecosystems where it harms and kills marine life. This loss demonstrates the far-reaching impact of human pollution. As we look to the 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐘𝐞𝐚𝐫, let us choose responsibility. 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐩 𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠. 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐬. #StopOceanLitter #ProtectOurOceans #SaveMarineLife #TunzaMaliYako

The Kenya Wildlife Service veterinary and capture teams are undertaking a rescue and translocation exercise of 15 Masai giraffes and about 150 common zebras from Manera Farm in Naivasha. Due to land-use changes and the swelling of Lake Naivasha, the animals have lost their natural habitat and access to sufficient food and water. They are being safely moved to Nairobi National Park and Naivasha Wildlife Sanctuary, where they can thrive and continue to contribute to Kenya’s rich biodiversity. KWS remains committed to safeguarding Kenya’s wildlife and securing healthy habitats for their survival. #ThrivingWildlifeForever #TunzaMaliYako
