Twitter is the social platform where people who pretend to know each other pretend to have conversations with each other

I’m out here still trying to find a label to release my band’s excellent as-yet-unreleased EP, while the guy who put out my (frankly terrible) teenaged ska band’s music is putting out freakin John Hinckley’s album now, so things obvs are cool and make sense

Yeah idk, I kinda feel like if you can designate a record "Best New Music" AND rate it the numerical equivalent of a B-, your numerical rating system might need some adjusting

Think I'd describe the trending aesthetic in Bushwick as "scumbari-core"

I know I had a lot of weird dreams last night, but I don't specifically remember what was in most of them that was so weird, except for Kathy Hochul doing karaoke, which is one of the parts I don't necessarily *want* to remember

@alex_heigl I suspect those execs know very well how little creators get paid, but they exploit the common misconception of people outside of media that profile/prominence correlates w pay. Right-wing commentators obvs exploit this when depicting "MSM" as brimming w $

@alex_heigl Feel like an obscure hardcore band from Manitoba would be 100% valid for someone who grew up in Manitoba. I've always said that when you're 15, the most important punk band in the world is the one that practices down the street from you

It's so cool that all these blue-check people are so open-minded to following people they disagree with and then dive-bombing their comments to disagree with them

There should be a word for the kind of internet person who leaves an obnoxious comment on a deleted Reddit thread from 5+ years ago. Something more niche than standard "troll"

Word to the wise: When you're on the phone w your parents, don't mention your faults or character flaws, even those you feel you've outgrown, even if you're trying to be self-effacing for a laugh. You're opening a bad door

@streever Same. Recited by the kids & teacher in elementary school, piped in over the intercom in HS. I had a few friends in HS who routinely sat through it and caught a lot of heat from the squares

People who work in media know this almost ambiently. It's just part of reality. For everyone else, all you have to do is Google it to realize the pay-per-article model has always been dead in the water. There have been On the Media segments. There's a super prominent CJR thing

This site's owner says Twitter will allow media outlets to charge non-subscribers for their content on a per-article basis. This model has been proposed through the years by a number of people who didn't bother to check why it's not already widely implemented. The reasons:
