@LadiesOfReddit Lol imagine instead of milk you use Jack Daniels lol. I'm balding.
English

@woke8yearold The American empire largely drains the homeland for the benefit of cliques of special interests. Venezuela may have been the exception
English

@itsyaboidougie Uh yeah did you not read that my life has undergone dinergothification?
English

@LadiesOfReddit There's no need to defend your essay so aggressively. You got thousands of people talking about something they didn't even realize they were noticing, that is more important than the absolute correctness of every point you made
English

This point is explicitly addressed in part two of the dinergoth article (currently paywalled)

Diner goth article sells itself short, the real story is that “aging out” of adolescent subcultures became a class marker sometime in the last twenty years
English

@tenobrus @sonyasupposedly I'm not remotely ashamed of this because everyone is doing their weird eisegeses about the relationship section in a dozen different directions
Twitter can't decide if i was a pathetic spellbound simp or a heartless sneering aristocrat viewing her as a science experiment
English

@sonyasupposedly @LadiesOfReddit and i would feel less bad about doing this psychoanalysis of him publicly if he hadn't published exactly this kinda stuff lmao
English

idk why people are tripping about this article, I think @LadiesOfReddit nailed it
thenewatlantis.com/publications/a…

English

@tenobrus @sonyasupposedly I don't look down on her at all. I go into how the status markers I felt I was supposed to respect were actually fake. She showed me a new world and that world fascinated me.
I don't see how this isn't the simplest reading. I even say "I wanted to be part of her little world"
English

yeah i'm not saying it's *angry*. i think it's very explicit that he both looks down on her and kind of hates himself for not being able to keep her interest. imo it reflects poorly on him to write publicly about any relationship in this way. it reveals a deep lack of self awareness and a willingness to engage in very poor decision making / romantically entangle himself with someone he fundamentally doesn't respect . which like, of course, we all make mistakes in dating. but those mistakes don't need to be broadcast to an audience as a think piece
English

@kenthecowboy_ @papermoonartsy People "aren't growing up" because maturity no longer carries guaranteed economic rewards it once did. Wearing a tie doesn't get you a house like it did 30 years age
I address this in part two
thenewatlantis.com/publications/v…
English

Good tweet
I will say though, my sister at @papermoonartsy is the most put-together person I know with a good job, a lucrative side hustle, a wife and a kid. Her house is covered in gaudy pink decorations and anime merch (love u soomfie)
A lot of people don't age out of adolescent subcultures, but this isn't an issue with the subculture. It's an issue with the not growing up

English

@klarnic_debt This is addressed in part two and has an economic argument for this phenomenon of never becoming respectable
The bargain used to be: shave in the morning, put on the tie and khakis, receive two-story house. That's not a thing anymore
English

@happygerbil909 It truly turns people into fast food slugs
Sometimes schizophrenic too
English

@LadiesOfReddit @sonyasupposedly damn so i see. if this was an editorial choice and it turns out the part 2 contains genuine content and thought and experiences then i gotta say man i think they did you incredibly fucking dirty by splitting this up

English

@tenobrus @sonyasupposedly Everyone is mad at me for talking about a relationship for completely different incompatible reasons
"You were bragging"
"You were embarrassing yourself*
"You were bullying her"
I was using it as a "fish out of water" thing which is a standard storytelling device
English

@LadiesOfReddit @sonyasupposedly u wasted the first half of the article on an embarrassing rant about ur relationship from 5 years ago and then spent the other half citing a few random statistics and then using very clearly super accurate abstract descriptors of people without any further detail to back em up!
English

@LadiesOfReddit @sonyasupposedly i mean there certainly may be many people who were just mad at you calling anime hair dye low class . but personally my biggest gripe was that you had a very accurate and interesting direction you basically didn't take anywhere
English

@alwaysadblock Yeah intuitions must win out. There's some absurd report that puts some African countries at 59 IQ on average which would make them literally unable to prepare food
English

I increasingly don't believe that IQ measures what we think it measures. Obviously it measures something. But a 70 IQ white person would be visibly slow, probably could barely read the questions or operate the laptop. These people look put together and sound coherent.
The Composite Guy@CompositeGuy_
An African YouTube channel conducted an independent IQ test in Lagos, Nigeria. The average was 73.4, and the median was 69.7.
English

@sonyasupposedly They actually read it as either bragging or me unwittingly humiliating myself
Or like bullying my ex somehow
Completely incompatible misinterpretations
English

@LadiesOfReddit also so typical that people read your reflection on the relationship as bragging versus self-deprecating
