Today's #MPMonday for #WHM21 is Jennie Lee. Elected MP for North Lanarckshire during a by-election in March 1929, Lee was just 24. But the Equal Franchise Act (reducing the voting age to 21) didn't come into effect until the general election in May, making Lee below voting age!

@LadyAstor100 I will look for the Lady Astor references in my family letters. Arthur was a prep school headmaster, they both thought Nancy being MP was a good idea

In 1919 Arthur and Dorothy, of Mount House School in Plymouth, were also supporters of Nancy Astor. They went to watch the returns coming in on Election night. Arthur wrote in a letter - she will shake things up #1900s #letters #100yearsofcox
