I don’t know which kind of Australians these people have spoken with, but the same ones who dislike the monarchy would likely dislike anyone coming to their country with royal titles and attempting a faux royal visit. There isn’t any widespread hatred of Prince William in Australia. The only people who might dislike him are republicans, so all these claims are completely false.

The threat of legal action, whether it happens or not is not the point. For MM and H, the point is, they are done absorbing negative media attn. They have hired a high powered litigator who did not send a nice note to Variety asking for corrections. He sent a formal letter calling specific claims blatantly false. That is not PR, it is a lawyer marking territory. It matters because f what it says about H and MM 6 years after walking out on TRF, it was to be 100% on their own terms. The UK press still writes about them, they have no relationship with the crown and they are still fighting for security and now the most important partnership of their lives is ending, not in triumph, but allegations of betrayal. H and MM feel like they have been burned and are not taking it lightly. There is right now, lawyers reading a contract which is worth anything between 60-80 million dollars looking to see if Nx failed to stick to the deal.
