This is exactly why I run my nonprofit the way I do. Paying women’s tuitions. Paying their rents and mortgages. Giving them all the money they need. After my arrest, I expunged my record, got 3 degrees, paid off my student loans, bought a luxury car, traveled the world w/ a lucrative career in healthcare, & am a soon to be published author. Your life is NEVER over.

An epilepsy patient at Stanford told his doctors that right before each seizure, he felt detached from his own body. Researchers put electrodes in his brain to find the source. They caught the signal: a clean pulse, firing three times a second, in one specific spot. That was the 2020 Nature paper. The team then stimulated that same spot themselves, and the detached feeling came back, no seizure this time. They ran the test on mice. Give a mouse ketamine, the anesthetic known for making people feel like they're floating outside their own body, and the same three-times-a-second rhythm fires. They eventually narrowed it down to a single molecule on brain cells that lets electrical signals through. Block that molecule and the dissociation goes away. The tweet is describing a real thing with a clear fingerprint. Then there's how common this is. A 2022 Harvard study at McLean Hospital ran the largest dissociation project to date, tracking 1,464 adults who came into 22 US emergency rooms after serious traumatic events. Two weeks later, about half of them reported feeling detached from reality. Three months later, that detached half had measurably worse PTSD, depression, anxiety, chronic pain, and trouble functioning day to day. The effect held even after the researchers accounted for childhood trauma and earlier stress symptoms. Brain scans on a smaller group showed exactly this: extra activity in the part of the brain responsible for putting the brakes on strong emotions, plus weaker wiring between that brake and two other regions. The brakes were stuck on, and the cables underneath were fraying. The duration thing in the tweet is also clinically real, and it has an official name: Depersonalization-Derealization Disorder. Clinical descriptions put episode length anywhere from hours to months. Only a third of people with the diagnosis experience it in episodes that come and go. The other two-thirds live with it continuously. It usually starts in adolescence and tends to stick around for years. About 1 to 2 percent of people meet the full criteria. But 80 to 90 percent will experience some version of it at some point in their lives. Memory takes the hit. In studies comparing dissociation scores to memory test results, higher dissociation lined up with worse short-term recall, worse general memory, and worse long-term memory. Months of mentally checking out scrambles the recording. One useful update from the same Harvard team: now that the affected brain regions can be mapped, researchers are studying them as direct treatment targets. Magnetic stimulation aimed at the front of the brain is in early clinical trials. Talking therapy built for these exact symptoms is the first-line treatment with the strongest evidence behind it. The thing the tweet half-jokes about has its own diagnostic name, its own brain rhythm, and at least one treatment trial running.
one guy. maybe more@documense

guys im beginning to think that repressing your feelings and dissociating whole chunks of your personality and conscious awareness of Yourself for months at a time might not be good

@boomsizzlex (states something obvious and unnecessary) (doesn't understand how the emotional response probably impacts a real person behind a screen) you can say you haven't done anything, friend. but really, you did. I don't agree with either sides. but I can't even show my face. duality.

I actually don’t believe you CAN be neutral on sexual assault. Maybe this sounds crazy to some people but if a person is assaulted and your response is "mmm, I’m neutral on this!" You don’t actually get true neutrality because it immediately benefits the assaulter

@spicyim_jam hey friend. not sure which of these I fall under, besides being white (fair, we suck) i really do hope you have kindness in real life. not just through a screen. i'm proud of you you don't need my kindness or anything at all. you're stronger than me in every way 🧡

it really is funny though. my kindness has never gotten me anything. yet I still choose to be kind. because I dont do it for people to tell me how nice I am. i do it for people who just need a random person to be kind/gentle. im really not sorry for my kindness ✌🏻

@alicem3x moulin rouge is quite literally the portrayal of a sex worker who falls in love with a writer, continues to strive for her own way out, just to die of tuberculosis at the end Ewan McGregor (Mr. Sexy Obi) literally says at the beginning "this isn't a love story" yet it is.

@Miss_Oluremi i remember watching a documentary about sex work from across the world. women are in pain. all over the world. we carry the love and misery and joy and children. i hope one day, we no longer have to carry. i hope one day, we can just.. be. peacefully.

From a wife. My husband married me as a virgin. It was after our wedding i found out how much he loves sex. At first, it was enjoyable. But after I gave birth to our child, I totally lost interest in sex. a month after childbirth, I got pregnant again. I had to abort it. After that, I took IUCD family planning. There were side effects. I wanted to endure it, hoping the complications would stop. But it did not. I bled every day for 3months until my mum forced me to remove it. All through these, he was still having sex with me. I decided not to have sex with him again until I'm totally fine. Then I found out he's having an affair, and he placed the girl on a weekly allowance. I told my mil, but she said it was my fault that he had an affair and that I'm not the first to marry as a virgin. She married as a virgin, too, and she never for once deprived my fil of sex because it is our duty, regardless of how our body feels. She even quoted a bible verse for it. I moved out with my baby and went back to my mum's house. But my mum pleaded that she doesn't want my life to end up like hers and I should go back to my husband's house.
Remi@Miss_Oluremi

A virgin woman should never marry a non virgin man. Keep your dignity for a man who also has dignity.
