That day, I witnessed what can only be called daylight imposition play out in Bariga. I kept the video from that day for a moment like this. I kept it because my effort, my time, and my sweat were in that process. I worked for it. Many of us worked for it. And that night, I went home and cried. Not because I hate losing, but because I hate seeing the process mocked. How 5 Illegal Votes Changed the Outcome What happened was simple and brazen. Five illegal votes cast by political office holders from Bariga were used to push Hon. Samuel Olu Apata, the incumbent, into office. These were not votes from delegates chosen through the party’s laid-down process. They were votes that should never have counted, but they did. And with that, the result on the field was overwritten. List of Five Illegal Voters: SLG. Mrs. Bukola Adedeji ES. Mr. Dare Martins Super for Works. Mr. Adeola Kuponiyi Chief of Staff. Mr. Adebomojo Folusho Chairman, Property and Investment. Mr. Korede Ajilo When you spend weeks mobilizing, convincing people, and defending the process, only to watch it undone in minutes by votes that had no business being there, it breaks something in you. That’s why I kept the evidence. One day, the story would need to be told in full. About Hon. Adegboyega Bari-Salau (Omo-Adugbo) I want to be clear about one person: Hon. Adegboyega Bari-Salau, Omo-Adugbo. He did not die politically that day. He moved on. He accepted the party’s decision, even when it was clear the process had been compromised. That kind of restraint is rare. He chose party unity over public conflict. But his silence should not be mistaken for agreement that everything was right. Some of us who were on the ground know better. Why I’m Speaking Now I’m not writing this to reopen old wounds for the sake of it. I’m writing because patterns repeat when people forget. If we don’t document what happened, the next cycle will look exactly the same.
