Feeling the love from our river keeper today.

I’ve been taking my kids to protests for over 10 years now. That first photo is at a 2016 MVP pipeline protest. Today may have been the last one. I feel like I am putting my kids safety at risk in a way I hadn’t before. Nothing egregious happened, but looking at the faces of the scowling people passing by in their vehicles or the faces of the cops directing crowds gave me a sense that we were not safe, and I probably would have felt this so much sooner if I wasn’t protected by my financial status, race and gender.

Gave a talk last weekend at a local author fair, then we headed to Richmond to see Sarah’s painting for an art competition/exhibit focusing on large eared bats. Slung some copies of our new breviaries in ‘zine form and visited an alien-experiencer art talk at a new gallery. open.substack.com/pub/therianthr…

I love seeing these sculptures and imagining there’s one guy in the tribe who’s just beast as fuck at making these things. Maybe he can’t hunt or fight worth a fuck hit god damn can he make a Tree PAWG. Probably the coolest fucking guy in the tribe.

My kids and I have been lucky enough to visit Sapelo Island twice, staying at a descendant of the Gullah-Geechee community's rental manufactured home. I'm so happy for this community's win. I'm not certain I'll ever get another chance to go there, but 100% hope the island's descendants get to decide their future. I also pray the McIntosh County Commissioners, Bill Hodges, and anybody else hoping to profit from displacing these folks, die of ass cancer immediately.
