To wrap up the last field bot class of the semester we added the finishing touches to our herbarium collections! One of my favorites was Bidens Vulgata, Asteraceae #BisonFlowers@MartineBotany
Feeling especially grateful today that I got to spend #PlantsGiving with my family! I found that were 42 different plant species that were a part of our meal!!! @MartineBotany
I came across a large patch of Typha latifolia on my walk this afternoon. No better way to review some botany during break! #Bisonflowers@MartineBotany
A big thanks to Dr.BenFred for the amazing coffee and breakfast that really helped to warm us up on this chilly morning! During our quiz we revisited previously learned species like Pinus Virginiana, that has this scaly looking bark! #BisonFlowers@MartineBotany
Gorgeous views from the class trip to Roaring Creek this morning, where we learned about how mining and the making of iron influenced the regrowth of this forest! #BisonFlowers@MartineBotany
Our class trip this morning was to Tall Timbers, a rare old-growth forest.Sadly we saw that the wooly adelgid has invaded and killed off many Tsuga canadensis trees. We discussed consequences of light changes and future shifts expected in this system #BisonFlowers@MartineBotany
Fall is so beautiful at Bucknell! It's pretty cool watching the leaves change colors and being able to ID these trees around campus #BisonFlowers@MartineBotany
Some highlights from my first trip to Turtle Creek Park this morning. We talked a lot about the interesting history of this ecosystem and saw the native trees that remain in the patch of the forest on a slope. Also met some puppies along the way!! #BisonFlowers@MartineBotany
Pretty cool that we visited the only place in Central PA that this rare species is found. This morning we got to walk through patches of Schoenoplectus fluviatalis at Montandon Marsh! #BisonFlowers@MartineBotany
Chillisquaque Natural Area is a hidden gem at Bucknell! By the creek we learned the dynamics are different on both sides of the water. Compared to the floodplain, the geology of the other side is higher & better suited for upland species like Tsuga. #BisonFlowers@MartineBotany
On today's class trip to Mohn Mill we hiked and visited this awesome fertile pool, which is home to Scirpus ancistrocaetus. We learned how it has become an extremely endangered plant and the ways other species are encroaching over this open habitat. @MartineBotany#BisonFlowers
Some of my favorite moments from our great class trip to Jones Mountain this morning! Incredible views from the lookout and we headed down Buffalo Path to learn about species like Acer pensylvanicum, which is an understory maple. @MartineBotany#Bisonflowers
So glad the rain held off for our class trip to Dale's ridge today. We saw some cool new plants, amazing views from the lookout, and this little rooster that followed us around!! #BisonFlowers@MartineBotany
Fun times in the West Branch Susquehanna River with Field Botany this morning, seeing what species live on the island opposite of @BucknellU Landing. #bisonflowers#iamabotanist
Best way to prepare for Quiz 1 and definitely worth the weird looks I got walking into the lib with them. My personal favorite is Liquidambar Styraciflua, a member of the Altingiaceae family. Very excited for the our first class trip this week! @MartineBotany#BisonFlowers
I'm so excited to be back on campus but I can't help but miss this gorgeous scenery from FL vacation, capturing such amazing evergreens! Certainly major differences compared to the evergreens in the Cupressaceae or Pinaceae families in the grove. #BisonFlowers@MartineBotany
It's nice to see some positive news regarding the corona virus. Although this is still being studied, it appears that remdesivir is going to be approved by the FDA as a potential treatment for COVID-19!!
