Peoria Sunday Morning League Baseball
We are excited to continue unveiling Peoria Sunday Morning League All-Quarter Century Teams, now moving into the Legacy Era (1951–1975). In the decades following World War II, baseball remained the sport every athlete played, and the Sunday Morning League represented the highest level of amateur competition in the region. Players coming out of high school, college, and even professional baseball returned to compete, creating a highly competitive and respected environment. This era produced some of the league’s most accomplished and longest-tenured players, helping define its enduring legacy. Legends such as Don Wyss, Art Thome, Chuck Thome Jr., and Harry Dean Blair emerged during this period, many becoming the league’s all-time statistical leaders for decades. As we introduce these teams, selections were based on more than reputation or single-season performance. Each player was evaluated using a composite, era-adjusted model built from our historical data. Hitters were graded using a weighted formula that balances production, consistency, and power: Score = 0.35·Hits + 0.30·AVG + 0.20·Extra Base Hits + 0.15·ISO ISO = (2B + 2·3B + 3·HR) / AB 150 hit minimum for Legacy Era All stats were normalized within their era to ensure fair comparisons across different time periods. This rewards players who combined sustained production with efficiency and impact power, rather than those with limited sample sizes. Pitchers were evaluated based on workload, effectiveness, and dominance: Score = 0.35·IP + 0.30·ERA (inverted) + 0.20·K/IP + 0.05·Win% + 0.10·BB/IP (inverted) 200 innings pitched minimum for Legacy Era Minimum innings thresholds were adjusted by era, and rate stats were inverted where appropriate so lower values were rewarded. This highlights pitchers who carried innings, prevented runs, missed bats, and limited free passes. By combining multiple performance indicators and adjusting for era, this process identifies players who didn’t just perform well, but consistently stood out within their time. Salute to the Legacy Era of the PSML! 🫡 #PeoriaSundayMorningLeague #Year111 #LegacyEra

We are excited to continue unveiling Peoria Sunday Morning League All-Quarter Century Teams, now moving into the Expansion Era (1926–1950). As the league entered its Expansion Era, baseball’s popularity surged across Peoria, with thousands of fans attending games and powerhouse company teams dominating competition. During this period, iconic players like Chuck Thome Sr., Harvey Kreps, George “Doc” Newell, and Ennio Arboit helped establish the league’s first generation of legends. The league’s stability and growth during this era cemented its place as one of the most respected amateur leagues in the country. As we introduce these teams, selections were based on more than reputation or single-season performance. Each player was evaluated using a composite, era-adjusted model built from our historical data. Hitters were graded using a weighted formula that balances production, consistency, and power: Score = 0.35·Hits + 0.30·AVG + 0.20·Extra Base Hits + 0.15·ISO ISO = (2B + 2·3B + 3·HR) / AB 100 hit minimum for Expansion Era All stats were normalized within their era to ensure fair comparisons across different time periods. As Team Venezuela celebrates winning the World Baseball Classic, we'd like to spotlight and tip our cap to Venezuelan native and Peoria Sunday Morning Leaguer, Carlos Sanabria. Sanabria was born in La Victoria, Venezuela in 1997. He signed with the Houston Astros in 2014 as an international free agent and later made his MLB debut with the club in 2020. Across 10 seasons in affiliated baseball, he has logged over 510 innings pitched-bringing high-level professional experience right here to the PSML. #PeoriaSundayMorningLeague #CarlosSanabria #TeamVenezuela

The day that Clay McConkey officially became the best to ever do it. He will look to add to that historical number in ‘26.

2025 Peoria Sunday Morning League Season Moment #2 “Clay McConkey breaks All-Time Win Record” On July 10, 2025, Clay McConkey etched his name atop Peoria Sunday Morning League history. In his 18th season, the longtime ace claimed career win No. 104, breaking a 61-year-old record previously held by Harry Dean Blair. McConkey captured the moment, spinning a complete-game gem against the Tin Lizard Titans. He struck out six, scattered five hits, and allowed just two runs, delivering the kind of steady, workmanlike performance that has defined his career. The Falcons’ offense gave him breathing room early and often. Ethan Sosnowski launched a two-run homer. Brian Quinn, McConkey’s longtime teammate, laced a two-run RBI double, and Alex Seaton stayed hot with two doubles. Noah Campbell chipped in as well with an RBI single to round out the support for an 8-2 Miller Lite Falcons victory. #PSMLTop30 #PeoriaSundayMorningLeague #ClayMcConkey @MillerLitePSML

2025 Peoria Sunday Morning League Season Moment #18 6/8/25 The Miller Lite Falcons held off the Pour Bros. Jacks for a 4–3 win, fueled by an early offense and great pitching. Colin Dearing set the tone in the first inning with a three-run home run. Charlie Hodges was dominant, firing five shutout innings while allowing just one hit and striking out 10. Nick Rainey gave the Jacks a chance, working four strong innings out of the bullpen and surrendering only one run. David Smith slammed the door in the final frame, striking out the side to earn the save. Offensively for the Jacks, Josh Arnett led the way with two hits and two RBIs, while Brady Booth chipped in a hit. For the Falcons, Kaden Rixner, Chris Finn (who also drove in a run), and Alex Seaton each recorded hits, and Ethan Krutke finished with a two-hit day. #PeoriaSundayMorningLeague #psmltop30 @MillerLitePSML @jacks_psml

Did you know that Toronto Blue Jays rookie phenom Trey Yesavage has ties to the Peoria Sunday Morning League? The 22-year-old Yesavage started the year in Single-A and quickly climbed the professional ladder all the way to the World Series. This October, he started both Game 1 and Game 5 for the Blue Jays, where he threw 7.0 innings, allowing just 3 hits, 1 earned run, 0 walks, and struck out 12 batters, setting a rookie World Series record for strikeouts. Just a couple of years ago, Yesavage was pitching for East Carolina University (ECU) alongside current Miller Lite Falcons of the Peoria Sunday Morning League, Charlie Hodges. The two were teammates from 2022 through 2024. We caught up with Charlie to ask what it was like being teammates with Yesavage. Could he tell Trey was going to be special? Was he surprised by the rapid rise through pro ball to becoming one of the most dominant pitchers of this postseason? Charlie shared: “It was a ton of fun playing with Trey. First off, he’s a 10/10 human being and a great dude. He was voted hardest working player at ECU by his teammates, and now we’re seeing that hard work pay off on the biggest stage. Being able to watch him throw every Friday night at ECU was pretty cool too. Electric stuff. You could tell his freshman year he had a chance to be really good as his fastball was already 95+ and he was a huge arm in our bullpen. Then he began to develop some off-speed and command, which allowed him to move into a starting role. From there, the rest is history. He was dominant as a Friday night guy for us two years in a row. It was a cool experience to have a front-row seat to that every weekend, especially that Regional game where it was him vs. Chase Burns. What a battle.” “I mean, I’m not sure how you can’t be surprised about his rapid progress through the minors this year because it’s just something you don’t see nowadays. Although once he made it to Double-A around June, we started having conversations in our group chat wondering if this was possible, and Trey was optimistic his MLB debut could happen this summer. Never could we have imagined he’d be throwing 12 Ks in the World Series. At that point, we were just rooting for him to get a chance at making his debut. But watching him this World Series, I can’t say I’m shocked, because I’ve seen that kind of dominance before.” The Peoria Sunday Morning League wishes Trey and the Blue Jays good luck as they head into Game 6 tomorrow! #PeoriaSundayMorningLeague #PeoriaConnection #BlueJays #TreyYesavage #ECU @treyyesavage @C_hodges10
