One of our adventurous young residents took advantage of the new accessible dock at Zink Lake last night. This new addition ensures that everyone can enjoy the lake’s scenic waters and all it has to offer. This best-in-class adaptive kayak launch helps increase dignity and freedom for individuals with mobility issues, while increasing accessibility and participation in water sports for adaptive paddlers.
Ready to take the plunge? You can use your own kayak or paddle board or rentals are available from 10 a.m. until sunset everyday!

Photos by @pingjhawk: Riders try out the new whitewater flume on the Arkansas River on Thursday as the city continues to prepare for the opening of Zink Lake. Work is underway to test operations and fine tune the wave-shapers in the new 1,050-foot-long recreational flume on the east bank of the Arkansas River just south of the reconstructed Zink Dam and the new Williams Crossing pedestrian bridge. The lake, flume and pedestrian bridge remain closed to the public but will open Labor Day weekend with the Big Dam Party, a four-day celebration. Read more here: tulsaworld.com/news/local/zin…

Great news for increased public safety and lower insurance rates in Tulsa: we have received a $20 million grant from FEMA to improve flood mitigation in the corridor shown in this photo!
With over 100 homes and businesses in this corridor, as well as 2 schools, this grant will allow us to build out detention ponds and increase the capacity of the storm sewer system. Tulsa Fire has to routinely rescue vehicles stranded on Sheridan during strong rains - not anymore once this project is complete.
This is part of the City’s decades-long flood control effort that has shifted us from being named the most flood-prone city in America in the 1970s to being one of only two cities in America with the highest possible flood protection rating today - a rating that benefits Tulsans not only during heavy rain events but also with lower flood insurance rates.
Grateful for everyone who worked together to put this grant forward and make our city safer!

Lots of exciting work under way as we approach the opening of Tulsa’s new lake this summer! We want Tulsans to be able to get out and enjoy it, so we’re installing new features that will change the river corridor into an entirely different kind of recreation destination.
The days of walking, biking, or driving by the river and looking at it without being able to use it are nearing an end!
