I remember the chills I got, the first time I saw this scene with the Ringwraith. Called me old fashioned, but I prefer the @ralphbakshi animated Hobbit and Lord of the Rings over the live action movies any day. Anyone else enjoy these?

@TabrisSing Your post made me smile. Just before seeing it I was literally just talking about how people (including DC) frequently misunderstand - Cosmic Adventures isn’t a kids book - it’s an “all-ages” book, which is a very different thing.

@TheMD2930 @TabrisSing It was an intentional choice. Superman lacks the emotional experience to handle this sort of thing. He cares, and he knows how to demonstrate that through long term actions, but in the moment he’s super awkward. By the end of the book, Supergirl is more mature than her cousin.

@JustinSmith4269 @trad_west_ It was foretold (by malbeth the seer?) that not by hand of man would the witch king fall. That doesn't make eowyn uniquely powerful, it just means that the seer could see that a woman would kill him.

>The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King >No modern political messaging >Just an army of men riding headfirst into certain death to save their allies from evil >Written by a devout Catholic >A pure, unapologetic representation of Christian Chivalry and Western courage against impossible odds >Great men save the day from evil >Good prevails, evil fails, the good guys win We need more movies like this.

@WobbyDobby69 @trad_west_ That is not what happened in the book though. The dagger that Pippin stabbed the Ringwraith with was magically enhanced to kill the Ringwraith.

@godsfavoriteant @DontWalkRUN @AdamCrigler Yeah, Frodo rides Glorfindel’s horse to Rivendell. While Glorfindel and everyone else trail behind. Arwen didn’t really replace Glorfindel - she replaced a character defining scene of the main character - which is much more egregious.

Glorfindel. Another one my favourite characters both i. The Silmarillion and Fellowship of the Ring. Again a character completely missing from the film. In the Book, he's the one who saves Frodo from the Ringwraiths on his horse Asfaloth in the film This was given to Arwen

@DontWalkRUN @AdamCrigler Where the actual fuck is Glorfindel? You know, the elf who actually saves Frodo and carries him to Rivendell for healing? Glorfindel was a bad ass who could stand against the nine. Arwen was in love with a human (the only thing interesting about her). They are not the same.

@LostHistory9 I don't hold ROP to the same critical level as LOTR films. I'm not going to fault the Hollywood writers of ROP for not writing at Tolkien's level - that's beyond reasonable. But I will fault Jackson for not following what was given to him. It was right there, and he changed it.

One of the biggest criticisms I get is "Feanor, the Jackson trilogy is just the bestest movie trilogy to ever trilogy! They had to leave things out for the sake of runtime and pacing!" Hm. That's interesting. Couple of things... This will be the 785th time I've said this, but the Jackson trilogy IS a fantastic set of films. My criticism comes from a deep respect for Tolkien and a desire to see his world put onto screen as accurately as possible. I've never asked for 100% canonical accuracy. I expect better than 10%. My critique is based solely on the films as adaptations. And compared to how I treat Rings of Power, I use kid gloves on the Jackson films, mainly because of how well they're crafted, and they at least do get SOME stuff right with the canon, unlike Amazon's disaster. Secondly, do we really need to have a talk about what Jackson decided to put in that was completely unnecessary? Faramir taking Frodo to Osgiliath? The elves showing up at Helm's Deep? The overemphasized romance between Aragorn and Arwen? Elrond bringing Anduril to Aragorn and talking about how "Arwen is dying"? Every scene where they made Gimli look like an absolute clown? Real talk, had these unnecessary, non-canon scenes NOT been added, how much of that time could've been used to adapt the books more accurately?

@RuckusRevo24277 @Squallstrike @Tolkienlegacy No... the trolls in the hobbit are "stone trolls" that inhabit an area nicknamed "the Trollshaws". These are from the book and the movie adapts them pretty faithfully. Damrod codes similiar. The cave troll in the movie of Fellowship was a Jackson invention.

@Squallstrike @Tolkienlegacy They’re all cave trolls technically. The first image boromir literally mentions to the fellowship “they have a cave trolls”. In The Hobbit the trolls literally live in a cave . Also The only orcs/trolls that were allowed to go out during the day were created by saruman. 🤷‍♂️
