@SGUYBRAY It’s on Cavendish and Milton: similizing vs. the epic similes. But I think my title needs work.

Please vote in this important poll. I'm writing an essay on simile. Which is a better title: "A Metaphor is Like a Simile" or "The Motive for Simile"?

@LaraDodds Have you come across “Jane Bites Back”, where Jane Austen is a vampire bookseller, having been seduced and turned by Lord Byron (who also vampired Charlotte Brontë & seems to have worked his way through all of English literary history, the dog)?

It's my birthday! I'm 64 and 6'4", which has a pleasing sound. Instead of a selfie, please enjoy this picture of the wines we'll have with dinner & cake tonight.

I received my contributor copy of The Oxford History of Poetry in English, vol. 5. My chapter is on “Speaker and Voice.” At first, I thought the chapter was one of the most difficult pieces I’ve ever written, and then it became the most fun.

I’ve read the table of contents backward several years in Notes and Queries and it seems very British. Which makes sense given its history. But is that a rule or a custom?

*Notes & Queries* says it publishes notes on “English language and literature… and scholarly antiquarianism.” By “English” do they mean literatures of Britain and the United Kingdom, or literature in the English language written, say, in the 19th century United States?

@cjdenial I agree with this suggestion. I’ve never been sorry that I had the extra days (I usually schedule as review day) but have been sorry when I don’t.
