@RutgersAltRoute A5: Being on stage is overwhelming for many (introverted) theater students, so placing an emphasis on process over product (staying on task and trying your best in rehearsal) contributes heavily in my assessments and supports a growth mindset and self-reflection more positively.

@RutgersAltRoute A3: In theater classes, mindset-conscious framing is crucial. I continually include ensemble games in lessons to promote risk taking and fun, so students feel safe to collaborate, let go of insecurities, build trust and explore their creativity together. #Artsed

Framing, or how teachers introduce new concepts and tasks to students, is the focus of Q3. Framing can steer students to a fixed or growth mindset. It helps students feel free to be a work in progress as they learn. #TeacherEd #GrowthMindset

@RutgersAltRoute A5 - Working directly with case managers, specialists, administration, PLC teams to understand the direct needs of these students is really helpful. Then using this info to build engaging, specific activities to support their needs. #TeacherEd #SpecialEd

@RutgersAltRoute Q4 - My job is to help students find their voice/joy/creative ways to express themselves and be proud of their uniqueness. I connect with each student individually and in group projects to ensure they understand the content, feel seen and contributions are celebrated/respected.

Teachers play a role in helping students learn and practice self-awareness skills and communicate their understanding. For Q4 think about what you’ve done or ideas you’d like to implement to help students be self-advocates, agents of their own success #TeacherEd #SpecialEd

@RutgersAltRoute A3 - Theater is a content area that naturally connects students with learning challenges. Using body gestures, facial expressions, verbal cues, social interactions/friendships to build character/story all help support these building blocks for all of our students #arted

@RutgersAltRoute I always offer different assessments as well (Do Nows/exit tickets, performance assessments, writing assessments, Kahoot trivia games, Group Collaborations, Pepper Questioning Activities) so each student has different ways to express their knowledge and comfortability.

@RutgersAltRoute A2 - I also find fidget toys to be distracting, but are a great way for kids to take a brain break and then return to the activity. I fully support preferential seating (as long as students are using this to support learning and social behaviors.

@RutgersAltRoute * A physical warm up game that helps connect our bodies to our hearts and minds connect the class as a whole and gets us all on the same page to work as an ensemble.

@RutgersAltRoute A1 - I have large classes with many IEP's included and I have found that starting the class with a group activity that connects us all together (speech warm ups, stretches, a physical game that gets usa5 min meditations) really help
