We reveal that interoceptive sensibility (self-reported awareness of internal body states) relates independently to both DP severity and self-face representation accuracy - highlighting deep links between intero-/ exteroceptive body awareness, memory, presence, and self-identity.

How do people with depersonalization (DP) see themselves? Our new study in @CognitionJourn used a "self-portrait" reverse correlation method to show that more severe DP symptoms are linked to highly detailed - but strikingly inaccurate - mental images of the self-face in memory.

@sd_marlow Intriguing! and you would be looking at how disrupted the performance on the task is by viewing the delayed video? Or have I misunderstood?

@Laramaister I'm stuck thinking that any test will require a blindfold, but maybe something that involves recording how people do a task, and then having them repeat the task while the video plays back with a short delay?

Any ideas for a relatively simple behavioural measure of current 'presence' or bodily self-consciousness (ideally body ownership specifically)? Plenty of methods for manipulating ownership/self-location etc. but struggling to find a measure of existing state?

@BignaLen @AnnaCiaunica I think response to threat does indeed get at what we need, although we may not have time or capacity for another physiological measure - but I think it should be added to our list of considerations! Thank you!

@PenaudSylvain Yes, as Anna said, we are not manipulating body ownership or presence, but just want a measure of its current state, as it differs from moment to moment and between individuals :)

Is interoception a good target for mental health? Despite the hype on the link between interoception and mental health, there hasn't been a systematic review on psychological interoception-based interventions for mental health. We just published one! 1/5 onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/pc…

There's a lot of debate about whether a p-factor exists and, if so, what it represents. Just accepted at Psych Med, @JenCheavens, Emil Coccaro, & I tested the unidimensionality of a p-factor and its associations with 5 leading theories of p. psyarxiv.com/bszt4/
