"My people"? @JDVance rose from humble (and challenging) beginnings to serve in the U.S. military, attend Yale Law School, write a best-selling book, and become a U.S. Senator and Vice President. Beshear is the son of a Governor. Their stories are not remotely comparable.
Andy Beshear@AndyBeshearKY

About to take the stage in the Cincy suburb, where JD Vance is actually from. This doesn’t appear to be where his book full of poverty tourism and tired stereotypes against my people is set.

"Scalia was not just a judge but a philosopher: he sought to fundamentally change how we think about the role of a judge in a democratic nation. His view was very simple: if the law is to change, it should be changed by the people who wrote the law, not by nine unelected judges sitting on the Supreme Court. If your favorite right is not in the Constitution, amend it. If your favorite provision is not in the U.S. Code, ask Congress to add it. If you can’t convince your fellow citizens that the law should change, why should you be able to get your way through judicial fiat instead?" scotusblog.com/2026/02/justic…

It’s hard to believe it has been ten years since we lost Justice Antonin Scalia, the sharp-witted, larger-than-life lion of originalism. Ten years on, his influence is visible in the legal movement he helped build, in how he transformed the way we think about the law, and in the Supreme Court’s originalist jurisprudence. We miss him. The Court misses him. The country misses him. My reflection in @NRO 👇🏻 nationalreview.com/bench-memos/th…

“Ohio runs its elections better than any other state in the country.” Thank you, @RepMikeCarey. Ohio truly is the national model for election administration and it's the bipartisan election pros at 88 county BOEs who consistently deliver on the promise to make it BOTH easy to vote AND hard to cheat!

Professor Steinglass dedicated his academic career to Ohio’s constitution. In recent years, he’d arranged conferences at which lawyers and judges with a diversity of legal views were able to discuss the state constitution. He will be missed, and I hope someone will carry on his legacy.

@AndrewJTobias Professor Steinglass was a giant in his field - one of the premier scholars of the Ohio Constitution. He was also just an all-around good guy. Godspeed, my friend.

I love the dignity and unapologetic witness Ben Sasse brings. Every human is born with a death sentence. The uncertainty of the time, place and manner does not change the fact of it—nor does it mean death is of no consequence. There is a hope greater than this present life.
Ben Sasse@BenSasse

Friends- This is a tough note to write, but since a bunch of you have started to suspect something, I’ll cut to the chase: Last week I was diagnosed with metastasized, stage-four pancreatic cancer, and am gonna die. Advanced pancreatic is nasty stuff; it’s a death sentence. But I already had a death sentence before last week too — we all do. I’m blessed with amazing siblings and half-a-dozen buddies that are genuinely brothers. As one of them put it, “Sure, you’re on the clock, but we’re all on the clock.” Death is a wicked thief, and the bastard pursues us all. Still, I’ve got less time than I’d prefer. This is hard for someone wired to work and build, but harder still as a husband and a dad. I can’t begin to describe how great my people are. During the past year, as we’d temporarily stepped back from public life and built new family rhythms, Melissa and I have grown even closer — and that on top of three decades of the best friend a man could ever have. Seven months ago, Corrie was commissioned into the Air Force and she’s off at instrument and multi-engine rounds of flight school. Last week, Alex kicked butt graduating from college a semester early even while teaching gen chem, organic, and physics (she’s a freak). This summer, 14-year-old Breck started learning to drive. (Okay, we’ve been driving off-book for six years — but now we’ve got paper to make it street-legal.) I couldn’t be more grateful to constantly get to bear-hug this motley crew of sinners and saints. There’s not a good time to tell your peeps you’re now marching to the beat of a faster drummer — but the season of advent isn’t the worst. As a Christian, the weeks running up to Christmas are a time to orient our hearts toward the hope of what’s to come. Not an abstract hope in fanciful human goodness; not hope in vague hallmark-sappy spirituality; not a bootstrapped hope in our own strength (what foolishness is the evaporating-muscle I once prided myself in). Nope — often we lazily say “hope” when what we mean is “optimism.” To be clear, optimism is great, and it’s absolutely necessary, but it’s insufficient. It’s not the kinda thing that holds up when you tell your daughters you’re not going to walk them down the aisle. Nor telling your mom and pops they’re gonna bury their son. A well-lived life demands more reality — stiffer stuff. That’s why, during advent, even while still walking in darkness, we shout our hope — often properly with a gravelly voice soldiering through tears. Such is the calling of the pilgrim. Those who know ourselves to need a Physician should dang well look forward to enduring beauty and eventual fulfillment. That is, we hope in a real Deliverer — a rescuing God, born at a real time, in a real place. But the eternal city — with foundations and without cancer — is not yet. Remembering Isaiah’s prophecies of what’s to come doesn’t dull the pain of current sufferings. But it does put it in eternity’s perspective: “When we've been there 10,000 years…We've no less days to sing God's praise.” I’ll have more to say. I’m not going down without a fight. One sub-part of God’s grace is found in the jawdropping advances science has made the past few years in immunotherapy and more. Death and dying aren’t the same — the process of dying is still something to be lived. We’re zealously embracing a lot of gallows humor in our house, and I’ve pledged to do my part to run through the irreverent tape. But for now, as our family faces the reality of treatments, but more importantly as we celebrate Christmas, we wish you peace: “The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned….For to us a son is given” (Isaiah 9). With great gratitude, and with gravelly-but-hopeful voices, Ben — and the Sasses

Today the Governor signed 5 Property Tax Reform bills which are the most impactful changes to the system in 50 years. These decrease most tax bills in 2nd half of 2026, stop future unvoted spikes in property taxes, increase savings to homeowners in 2027, and give voters more control. While ultimately voters are in charge of your tax bills, we have capped the unvoted portion to correct the past 5 years of spikes. Much more to come next year, we are not done! -HB 186: 1.) Saves $1.7 Billion to property owners just in the next 3 years by capping unvoted revenues to schools to inflation. 2.) Stops subsidizing of corporate ownership of homes and non owner occupied properties by ending the non-business credit and increasing the Owner Occupancy Credit to homeowners by $800 million in just 3 years. 3.) Starts the Inflation Cap on Schools in 2nd half of 2026 giving over $600 million in tax credits to property owners starting next year while keeping schools whole. -HB 335 Caps inside millage to inflation preventing unvoted spikes to counties, schools, cities, villages, and townships. This is expected to save half a billion over 3 years. -HB 124 Flips the script for valuations placing control at the local level instead of Columbus. -HB 129 Removes 237 schools off the 20 Mill Floor to give truth in a guaranteed tax rate which will stop spikes in 1/3rd of schools all together. -HB 309 Gives the County Budget Commission teeth to limit tax rates and review local government budgets to decrease taxes down to what is necessary.

This law puts pro-life healthcare workers and ministries in an impossible position — disregard their religious convictions by promoting abortion, or refuse to do so and face legal repercussions. Illinois’ mandate is a clear free exercise violation.
Cardinal Cupich@CardinalBCupich

The Church’s pro-life mission is under attack in Illinois. The State is pushing an aggressive mandate seeking to punish healthcare workers who refuse to aid and abet abortion. (1/13)

This is the worst selection committee we've ever had. Cannot believe Alabama didn't even drop one spot after the SEC title game blowout. Cannot believe they waited until the final reveal to flip Miami-ND. Could have done it at ANY point.
