@alexisohanian Hey Alexis, did a ROFLCon panel with you a (long) ways back. :-) Is @Culdesac not already on the radar of @HabitatCAZ or Habitat affiliates for other areas they’re developing in? Would love more of this, especially since @Habitat_org has its larger, annual Carter Work Project.

As one of the earliest investors in Culdesac a decade ago it’s been a delight seeing the team bring this to life. They were absolutely ahead of the curve when it came to creating walkable neighborhoods for Americans.

@erez I think “The Deification of David Lloyd (and His Disclosed Personal Schemes)” would be a fun ReMix title one day, if you make music. :-D That or a screenplay are about the only ways something approximating what you *think* is happening would happen (which is a good thing). :-)

@erez As far as the cult, the one zealous belief he had is the value of having a fan art community where money isn’t a driver. If you aim to make money, then the artistic decisions often get narrowed to what can sell or at least be licensed. Not inherently bad, just limiting.

Started reading something about @ocremix and it's kinda rabbit hole, which the constant reference to "staff" and ignoring the personal gains of @djpretzel from whatever scheme he's running off of other people's music (both the games and the "remixers") makes it feel like a cult.

@erez No one claims he was a suffering martyr. He simply ran OCR with no monetary enrichment motive (and the current staff don’t either), and his time doing that didn’t translate to any “personal schemes” that you appear to believe happened. These bad “staff” wording vibes are just odd

@LarryOji I also find the constant attempt to present David Lloyd as a suffering martyr a bit rich. There were gains made, personal, professional, and most likely monetary. Arguing against them as if the man had to draw blood to make the site run is exactly why I said it feels like a cult.

@erez You led off with “personal scheme”, but feel you *didn’t* say or imply anything was unethical? And then that calling OCR’s staff “staff” vs. “the staff” is of the same vein as Jonestown and indicates cult of personality vibes? Would love whatever edibles lead to this thinking!

@LarryOji I never said unethical. I just said undisclosed, which is not even an issue in itself. My issue was that there is/was gain, personal and possibly monetary, and that there're vibes of a cult, of personality if not else.

@erez Dunno the vision of unethical “paid work”/side work/career you think or assume he engaged in; literally anything you come up with will be more fanciful. Not practically — literally. Back to the VGM cult!

@erez Invoking Jim Jones over the use of the word “staff” is silly and out there. I owe my career in nonprofit marketing to my time volunteering for OCR, and many pro musicians have either started or grown there. “Lambo money” was a joke; we don’t even know our web traffic stats. :-D

@erez Happy to answer questions and/or react to whatever the article was. :-) Wish there was lambo money in putting up free VGM arrangements, but would settle for weekly comic book Wednesday money! It’s a labor of love for the greatest, most nostalgic kind of music in the world.

@erez ROFL at the “personal gains” of djpretzel. He never paid himself for the site, and we volunteer staff are unpaid. The site’s had additional staff since 2002, so “we” is us. The personal gain has been personal/professional growth. “Cui bono” = promoting VGM. Haven’t sold out yet!
