Assault released in 2005 and outside of emulation there is no way to play it without original hardware. Anyone born after 1995 probably hasn't played it, and are less likely to have touched Adventures. Not everyone fighting over the new Star Fox is 38 like I am. A lot of them are in their 20s, where the Nintendo Wii would have been their first Nintendo console.

It's a case of The Death of the Author. In the absense of official Star Fox content people have taken to building up their own canon (artwork, fanfiction, Event Horizon). The Author (Nintendo) "died" and in its place new creators rose up to fill the void by interpreting Star Fox in a way that most pleased them. With Nintendo having largely ignored Star Fox for more than a decade, there are large swathes of people who identify more with Star Fox fan creations than they do with actual Star Fox canon. The Author had Died, and in it's place the Readers Interpreted. However, now that the Author has returned and produced a new Star Fox canon, many of those people who were deeply attached to what amounts to a Reader's Interpretation (fanfictions, etc) are finding themselves unable to cope with reality. The official canon is not congruent with the reader's interpretation that they fell in love with, and it hurts them. And when people are hurt they lash out.

@cozonacel35_ I have a Sayo guitar and it's noticeably lighter than any other electric I own. My old scale says it's about 6 lbs, for comparison Toko's is almost 10

A lot of people like to say Super Mario Sunshine is a Mario game if it was made by Sonic Team, well I think this applies to Star Fox Assault as well, the amount of 2000s aura this game has is unprecedented, I really recommend trying this one after Star Fox 64
