At a time when our Latino brothers and sisters have faced fear and uncertainty, we must stand in solidarity, reject discrimination, and work toward a future rooted in dignity and justice for all.

I could go on for days talking about the incredible women who have helped shape the Bay Area and left a lasting impact not just in our state, but across the country. They remind me daily of why we keep fighting – because when women of color lead, communities move forward.

Right at home in Oakland, we can look to our very own Barbara Lee. She has been a moral compass in Congress for decades. She made waves as the lone vote against endless war in 2001 and is still one of the fiercest advocates for peace and justice for all.

One of the most beautiful parts of the Bay Area is our history. We have been home to countless trailblazing women of color. Their leadership shaped our communities and I want to highlight just a few.

24 years ago, nearly 3,000 lives were claimed during the unconscionable attacks of 9/11. California will forever hold the memory of those lost in our hearts, as well as the service members who dedicated their lives to protecting our freedoms and way of life.

The Trump administration is trying to cut disability benefits for roughly 300,000 Americans. These payments go to people who are in poverty and unable to work, and many are seniors.

Recently, Mother Jones released an article about the efforts of California Rep. Lateefah Simon and 5 Democratic members of Congress to demand answers from Trump's labor secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer. The group is raising concerns that the federal government is “failing to protect federal contractor workers with disabilities,” as stated in their letter to the Labor Secretary. According to the letter, the U.S. Labor Department is failing to investigate complaints of discrimination, abandonment of compliance reviews and stalled affirmative action plans. Our elders fought with blood, sweat, and tears for our voting rights. Trump is trying to silence the voices of Black and brown communities by redistricting out Democratic seats in Texas. California has the chance to stop Trump's election rigging, stand up for fairness, and protect our democracy by passing Prop 50. Make sure you're registered and ready to vote yes this November: sos.ca.gov/elections/vote…

Clean air isn’t a luxury—it’s a right. These rollbacks are an attack on our community, public health, and our future.

West Oakland, a primarily Black and brown community, is already considered a toxic hotspot due to air pollution from our highways and industrial sites. This directly impacts our families and children with higher rates of lung health issues and higher rates of hospitalization from asthma and other lung issues.

Climate justice is racial justice. Donald Trump’s massive rollbacks to climate and air pollution regulations have a direct and disproportionate impact on our communities. While wealthy businesses continue to pad their bottom line, we pay the price. apnews.com/article/trump-…
