An appropriate birthday present on my uncle's birthday today. A federal judge ruled that President Trump and the Kennedy Center Board acted unlawfully in renaming the Kennedy Center. The judge held that only Congress can change the Center's name and blocked the planned two-year closure. I know they'll probably appeal and the story isn't over, but for today let’s celebrate a great birthday gift.

San Diego County is about to spend $13.4 million of your tax dollars on lawyers for illegal immigrants in deportation proceedings. Not roads. Not deputies. Not mental health beds. Lawyers to fight deportation. The County's own annual report admits 65 clients in this program had grounds tied to criminal activity. We are paying to keep them here. The program started as a $5 million pilot in 2022. It's already cost taxpayers $10.6 million. Now my colleagues want to nearly triple it. Meanwhile our roads are crumbling. Our homeless crisis is worse. Families can't afford rent. A county budget should fund core services for the people who live here legally and pay the bills. Not a defense fund for people who broke federal law to get here.
