@ForsythCoGov so glad as a tax payer to be given <24 hrs notice of a water shut off and then water is YELLOW 48 hours later so no water for drinking, cooking, or doing laundry without ruining clothes. Oh, and I have to pay for the water to flush the lines?! @forsythnews

Biden isn’t incoherent: he’s stuttering. He’s trying to employ the things my kids speech therapist uses on the fly under pressure and angry at Trump. I SEE the tension, brute force attempt, the word search, the frantic sentence rearrangement. View his answers through that lens.

But please- don’t beat up on folks who stutter. In a few years- my kid will be in that job interview, and crushing it- be understanding.

We’ve had some luck, there are certain “modes” like “narrator mode” or “serious adult mode” that kick in sometimes. And there are role models, like Emily Blunt.

When you work with someone who stutters on their stutter, you learn the signs- the grimace, the tensing in the larynx or the rest of the body, the sudden change in cadence or rushing to get your words out. The look on their face as they scramble to salvage their thought.

And try to work around it- calm and slow down, repeat, blast through and force it out, or give up and work around by finding other words. We work on strategies to try to avoid hitting those blocks and preemptively fixing them, but it’s difficult.

Every extra barrier makes it harder. The more emotionally charged, or tense, the harder it is. The more complicated the verbal challenge, etc. We practice telling pretend stories or game instructions under time pressure to practice. When a word is getting stuck they will know

Its like patting your head and your stomach. I see this ALL THE TIME at work- coworkers are stressed, from pressure of presenting, and speaking in their second language, and explaining something hard, and their speech rapidly degrades. A stutterer can sometimes smooth it out-BUT

So here’s a thread about stuttering: A stutter can be worked through- but it induces a cognitive load. Speaking smoothly when you have a stutter is HARD. Non-stutterers do this too- it’s why people confuse a stutter for lying- the higher the cognitive load the more you break down

Q5: Time has always been my biggest challenge. Now that I am devoting a lot of time to it, the trick is finding good resources. There is a lot of bad or misleading advice out there, even from otherwise great resources. #ChatOpenS

Definitely! For Evergreen, which has mostly been my focus for the last several months, I get notifications of every new bug, and I have my email filters set up to flag everything with the accessibility tag.

@EquinoxOLI Me just thinking out loud here: It would be great if #accessibility bugs got inherently more weight when they were filed. #ChatOpenS
