STATEMENT ON THE ALLEGED SEXUAL ASSAULT ON FEMALE STUDENTS AT UNIZIK DEMANDING JUSTICE NOW! The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) is deeply disturbed by the alarming report that a lecturer at Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) is currently on the run after allegedly being caught with a female student in a compromising situation. According to reports, the lecturer escaped by jumping through a window, partially clothed, after realizing that he had been caught. This unacceptable conduct, if established, represents a gross betrayal of trust and professional ethics, as well as a serious threat to the safety and dignity of students within our campuses. We commend the courage of the students who have spoken up and petitioned the Vice-Chancellor. We stand in full solidarity with the female student(s) involved and all those demanding accountability. Let it be clear: NANS will not tolerate any form of harassment, abuse of power, or sexual misconduct within our institutions. Our campuses must be safe spaces for learning, not hunting grounds for predators. WE DEMAND THE FOLLOWING: * Immediate investigation into the incident by the University Management, with full transparency. * Appropriate disciplinary action against the lecturer if found culpable. * Protection of the female student(s) involved and all whistleblowers from intimidation, victimization, or retaliation. * A fair and transparent process that prioritizes the welfare, dignity, and safety of the students involved. * Establishment of stronger disciplinary and reporting mechanisms for cases of sexual harassment and misconduct within the university.
