When you get direct DMs from clients on Upwork, you have a 90% chance of getting hired because the client has already chosen you. People forget that Upwork is a search engine. It is not just a site where clients post jobs and wait for bids. Most clients see the recruiting process as stressful, so they prefer using Upwork’s search to find the best fit themselves. Now here is the gist. This is a game of visibility. Not all freelancers appear at the top of the search results. If you want to level up, you need to work to at least get your profile ranking within the first three pages in your niche so that clients can find you while they stroll. This will change the game for you. It will attract more job invites and direct messages, which increases your chances of getting hired by quality clients. Don’t just create your profile, apply for jobs and wait for replies. Learn SEO, study the algorithm, and position yourself to rank better.
