Today in RPG history... Square Enix released Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings for DS in JP on Apr 26, 2007. What a risk to do a mainline FF sequel, base it on the 2 of XII's dullest characters, and make it RTS but since nobody ever talks about it I'm sure the risk paid off, ya?

Likewise, this is the Final Fantasy XV I wanted to play The one being developed by Tetsuya Nomura I waited over 10 years for it, I hate Wada so much

@Genki_JPN If he does, does that mean we can get jobs that aren't so homogeneous? I'm a WHM main and left during the Endwalker patches because of just how boring healing had gotten. When I tried levelling other jobs, it was jarring just how similar same-role jobs felt...

@MoreLimitless No we don't. When I played FF14 I never felt so alone. I could never find a group that didn't just fall apart for one reason or another. Almost all content I ended up playing with randoms as a result. The game might as well be called Single Player+, sadly...

This is pretty much what they’ve been building towards with FFXIV already. But contrary to this, I think a part of what makes FFXIV so special IS that online aspect—that connection with others along your long journey. FFXIV is a FF amusement park people experience together.

@AbdallahNATION Honestly depends on if they fix their mistakes from Dawntrail. Both gameplay and story really dropped the ball, so if they fix things it should be worth picking up. Check with FF14tubers who were critical of the Dawntrail Dawntrail expansion to see if they like this one.

Classic FF fan here, but never played XIV. What’s the hype level on this? Newcomer friendly? Intrigued to give it a shot!

@kawoshiki I think it has more to do with the screen crunch on handheld. The original SNES version shows the full screen.

@wearykevin19 @Sebbywebz Hopefully the story for the new expansion is good again, and they have tougher content worth playing. If they course correct enough I may return to my paid account. I'll buy a story skip past Dawntrail again tho. Fighting SB Zenos as a healer was bad enough, DT sounded worse.

@wearykevin19 @Sebbywebz I'm hoping what they're doing with the classes, that evolved mode thing, helps fix the homogenization problem and the issue us healers wede having with the loss of our role identity. I might pick up a free copy on steam or console to play through the story up through sb again.

They showed what the Original Recipe would look like, with today’s tech (Expedition 33) In less than one year, their first dish outsold the last 2 meals Square Enix made (FF16 & FF7 Rebirth) That’s what Final Fantasy was Now it’s just a confused attempt at a gourmet meal, that only follows half the recipe

@wearykevin19 @Sebbywebz Really? Did we play the same game? Stormblood was hot garbage, it got boring after Endwalker, and from everything I hear Dawntrail was a complete disaster. Don't forget they had to nuke and redo the game before it got to a playable state, and even then, it's become homogenized.

Where is FFXIV for you? I consider it the "best" FF game. It's not amazing at the beginning (clunky combat until 50s/60s). But you're there for the story of which the stakes are as large as any other FF and executed wonderfully. I actually have a large issue with E33: I play single-player JRPGs because I want my character's stats to determine my success, not MY reaction time. Timed events are interesting, but they should be rare or non-existent in a JRPG IMO. The excellent Super Mario RPG started/popularized it, but I personally don't like it. If I want an action game, I'll play that (big Hades fan). But mixing like this feels like the worst of each. And Chrono Trigger remains the peak over all. Fight me.

@wg4wggw57772 @Sebbywebz Yeah, all they had to so was restore some side content, add some new storylines on the side to express their creativity a bit, and stay faithful to the original story and its tone. I even like the new battle system, but man... they just had to meddle in the wrong places, huh?

@Sebbywebz They had the greatest opportunity with final fantasy 7 remake but they blew it extremely hard with Disney nonsense and time travel Idiocracy instead of sticking to the script that was already amazing

@Bloodwolfe08 @Sebbywebz It's really frustrating too. I'd adore a new Legend of Dragoon, but siny only knows how to make reskins of Dad of Boy and Concord these days... They used to make all my favorite games.

@Sebbywebz and as a Connoisseur, I've have tasted so many Gourmet foods (Grandia, Shadow Hearts, Dark Cloud 1 & 2, Chrono Cross, Legend of Dragoon, Wild Arms, Suikuden, Star Ocean, etc). Sadly the ingredients of these recipe's are rarely used anymore for some reason.

@earth2frrst @Sebbywebz A hollow shell of its former self that scrubbed all the rough edges off. Really frustrating for us healers who no longer feel like we have purpose. I hear they forgot how to write i Dawntrail too, though I left halfway through the Endwalker patches out of boredom.

@tinktwtt @Sebbywebz That's just you accusing those critical of 7R as not being fans. Those are not the same thing. Do I like 7R's gameplay? Sure. But the pacing and bloat is bad, and I really don't appreciate fans being cast as a villain in Remake. That was a dick move by the devs.

@Sebbywebz If E33 is supposed to be the original recipe but modernized then i'm fucking glad FF took the action route because i do not wanna play parry only simulator. Besides it's not like the recipe was ever removed, you can still play the classics if you're that emotional about it.

@Simon_Hypixel @haus_of_nando Can confirm - we're in a holding pattern until Worldgen v2 because we don't wanna have to restart the server after it comes out.

Yeah, a large % of the people from a quick survey I did revealed that lots of players bought the game but are waiting on world gen 2 to get started, so it makes all the sense in the world for us to push hard on production (Fortunately, I predicted and made the same bet on this before launch).

I hope @Simon_Hypixel is pushing for World Gen 2. It's probably something that would bring back many many players to explore their games and start their forever worlds. I understand everything is in progress, but players need something reliable and a world that evolves with them
