UCSD now requires postdocs to complete timesheets. This is insane, right? Do other universities have postdocs log their time?

In light of a certain news story this week, I’m looking to interview academic mothers for a piece on the joint pressures of academia and motherhood. Get in touch.

@ZJAyres I’ve gotten better at time management, so I can maximize my time with my kiddo and (after a year) gotten to the point where I don’t think about work when I am focusing on him!

Back again looking at some neurogenesis in the developmental brain! Newborn neurons in 🟣 (dcx marker) are slowly starting to mature and express markers of fully developed neurons (🔵, map2 marker). Astrocytes in🟠(Gfap marker) and microglia in🔴(Iba1 marker) are also present! Image taken with our confocal from @zeiss_micro.

The best thing my PhD supervisor ever told me was: “Anyone can find a good, positive finding, that’s not the hard part. The hard part is when you figure out what’s next after you don’t get the results you wanted. That’s when you become a scientist”

Here's my 🔥 take of the week: there is way too much pressure on PhD students to have positive results/big discoveries/experiments that "worked," and I think this pressure originates from a wide range of external forces (i.e., not just the mentor/lab/uni). It needs to change.

Two more children have measles in Philadelphia. They got the measles at daycare, after a person infected who refused vaccine or post-exposure prophylaxis attended against quarantine rules. Outbreak so far: 5 infants/children and 1 unvaccinated adult. inquirer.com/health/measles…
