Motivation-Ppl like a challenge & kids are people. When u ask them to take on something hard, let them in on the secret so they can take on the challenge with the right mindset & so they can be proud when they meet the challenge –& we will make sure that they meet the challenge

Yes!! That is the key - seems like it would be easier since you give them 1/2 the sentence, but alas, no! They have to think harder.

@thismomloves @margaretmckeow2 I did this last year-at first I thought it was going to be “easier” b/c I did it as a scaffold but quickly noticed that it was trickier for Ss ….AND that they were making better & awesome connections & sentences! I havent read this (yet) but adding to the expanding #tbr list! ❤️

Vocab/writing tip from @margaretmckeow2:
Don’t ask kids to write a sentence with a new vocabulary word - they can fake it!
E.g., does “I feel cozy” show understanding?
Instead try having them complete a sentence stem: “My cat looks cozy when…” which requires more thinking!

We celebrate our learning at end of each day in all of our classes! In class #4 we share what we are proud of and why.
“I am proud of my writing”
Because…
“I added all capital letters to the start”

Last day of small groups @ReadALotLDSB - these assistants lead our word chains! Incredible seeing students read each word (from code they hadn’t yet consolidated just weeks before!!!) & guide their peers! Amazing! Have a great summer & happy reading!

❤️ When #students dysregulate and exhibit unexpected behaviors, they are thinking with the emotional part of their brain at that moment. This is not a teachable moment. It is a time to connect, not correct. #LeadInclusion #EdLeaders #Teachers #UDL #TeacherTwitter
