When Mum and Dad passed away last year, I found this letter in their bedroom. I’m pretty sure it kick-started their 60 year relationship - Mum was clearly besotted.

this scene from black narcissus (1947) is so brilliantly shot because it demonstrates the way each sister responds to temptation. sister ruth applies lipstick and falls into temptation while sister clodagh observes, but returns to prayer.

This is the massive mosque that, for some reason, is being built in our beautiful Lake District. No one, other than muslims, would be allowed to destroy our countryside in this way. Whoever authorised this eyesore should be arrested and locked up for a VERY long time.

If we seriously contemplate life it appears an agony too great to be supported, but for the most part our minds gloss such things over & until the ice finally lets us through we skate about merrily enough.

Today we celebrate International Women’s Day. This photograph — “Weavers on the Bauhaus Staircase, 1927” by T. Lux Feininger — captures some of the remarkable women who shaped the Bauhaus. As members of the textile workshop, they transformed weaving into one of the most innovative and influential disciplines of modern design. Their work combined craft, experimentation and modern thinking — embodying the Bauhaus idea of uniting art, design and everyday life. The legacy of these women continues to influence textile and design culture around the world. Weavers on the Bauhaus staircase, 1927. From top to bottom: Gunta Stölzl, Ljuba Monastirskaja, Grete Reichardt, Otti Berger, Elisabeth Müller, Rosa Berger, Lis Beyer-Volger, Lena Meyer-Bergner, Ruth Hollós and Elisabeth Oestreicher.
