American inJUSTICE in Black and white Marissa Alexander is a Black woman from Florida who fired a warning shot at her abusive ex husband, Rico Gray, who assaulted and threatened her. He wasn’t harmed. She was arrested, convicted, and sentenced to 20 years in prison. Bryn Spejcher is a white woman who stabbed her boyfriend, Chad O'Melia, 108 times across his body. She killed him. Her defense was…she was high on weed after taking two tokes of a bong. A jury found her guilty of involuntary manslaughter. She was sentenced to probation in January. She won’t spend a day in jail.

I question if a white student would have gotten the same treatment under the same circumstances? We need more details about this incident to understand why a student who is not resisting is being handcuffed in their classroom! We cannot allow racial prejudice in the classroom!

Smoking weed ain’t the problem. It’s weeding out the hypocrisy of a nation that started a war on drugs to justify its assault on Black folk, and then blames us for smoking, when what we really need is to smoke out the racism that blunts the lives of too many of our people.
