In 2007 I got the opportunity to make a visit at Marubeni, a food retailer. They were working with Toyota Industries adopting TPS. Extremely impressive results. One shop turned around their inventory 8 times every day! Retail industry has come very far in Japan.

Pär Åhlström & I just submitted a paper to EurOMA called “Jidoka – The Forgotten Part of Lean? Building Routinized Learning Capability”. Our study of TPS indicates that Jidoka is so much more than quality control and it deserves more attention!
