There's a lotta details in Pokemon designs that people don't see because it's in the anime or concept art (which most don't pay attention to) or just ignore/say don't matter because they don't like it.

Puzzles, not gym puzzles. But ones scattered around the region that gives you a neat item
Dungeon like areas
If we're lucky we'll see one or two, but even then they're usually not very exciting
