@149centimeters should be this, no? (2-6 full loss is 5-loss streak) 20*6 + 5*(5+6+7+8+9+10) = 345

@LearningTFT How did you do this math? Because full streak starting 2-6 to 3-6 is 20*6 + 5*(4+5+6+7+8+9) right? And that’s 315, looks like you are one round off but I could be wrong

@ClementKChu interesting. thanks for sharing! yeah the Taiwan study group is such an outlier. and cooking brownies study group has regularly had 2-4 players in each tpc and regionals final lobby for both Amer and Emea. makes it more evident that study groups are essential to climbing to top

Highly reccomend this series. Cool think about TFT is its players are often a bit older and more introspective so there great lessons on life and relationships you don't find asking a 17 year old LoL player. On APAC Strength: @LearningTFT thought you might find this interesting. In general the biggest reason is sheet size, APAC is smth like 3 EMEAs put together. But APAC doesn't actually communicate with each other well. Vietnam for me is the only region that continuously produces top talent you've never heard of. KR suffers from conscription, and often loses its best. OCE limps along and SG is probably truly too small. Rest of SEA elites have moved onto FFGS with very attractive prizing. 2nd reason is doing international esports and surviving at local purchasing power actually makes sense. Think the rise of the TW study group is crazy because the server is very small, but now routinely sends 3 members to regional finals, was 3/4 top pro-points. The only player that was truly an unknown quality and new on the scene post set 9 was Iron Bog. Withoutyou has been the brains and the best bet to hit it big since set 9. Main reason IMO, it is mandarin speaking and has a massive mixed study group with CN. It's kinda sad, but we lost half the community between set 8 when Garena left and finally added us to Tac. Crown and Set 11 when Riot stepped in and globalized rules, in between Vietnam wrote rules for everyone else in SEA and it was just hopeless, actually more demoralizing than not being able to attend. In general, numbers matter especially the nodes you can communitcate with. Experience is just too large a factor. Culture perhaps to some extent, but I haven't seen strong indicators compared to league where it REALLY matter, and then career attractiveness to yong talent.

i talked to all 3 set 16 regional winners. one from NA, one from EMEA, one from APAC. different personalities, similar underlying stories. [thread]

@banhxiupaotft yeah I was surprised by how similar their underlying stories were. and I see myself in that as well. I suspect meant people will resonate with their stories. congrats btw for earning a spot in tpc next set!

@LearningTFT For me, someone who has spent almost three years pursuing competitive TFT, grinding through countless tournaments, and recently earned a spot in the TPC set 17 (for the first time), I see a part of myself somewhere in their stories.

lilbear quit tft in set 14, got a job, and came back. then, he won set 16 APAC regionals. we talked about what inspired him to compete, performance under pressure, and how he's still not sure if the journey has been worth it. youtu.be/NEZtx8uhuYg

@xavleague yeah that's part of the motivation behind what I'm building with tft dojo. a practice/training environment to get reps in without the lp baggage.

@LearningTFT depends on the title, for traditional sports its a lot easier to opt into a practice environment, whereas esports is a lot harder cause practice is practically the same as matches

question to myself: if losing feels like shit and winning doesn't fix it, grinding harder isn't the answer. so what're you actually trying to do?

@xavleague yeah. the metric is irrelevant. LP, tournament wins, job title, net worth. same trap, different scoreboard. curious if you’ve thought about what a different motivation structure looks like for your players. one that isn’t built on the external ladder.

@LearningTFT for most games, you can end up using rank and LP as external validation. Then losses feel personal, and wins only feel like temporary relief. for esports specifically, your practice being tied to a number (LP) doesn’t feel like real practice
