@paulg The EU regulatory mindset has been there since the French Revolution. It's the old and slow continent, Asia was the same but their demographic boom made them come out of it. If not AI it will be something else, just as it has been in the past

I wonder if in retrospect it will turn out to be one of those very important accidents of history that we got the EU, with its culture of regulation, at about the same time (on a historical scale) as we got AI.

@cyb3rops As a senior dev you don't get into phase 3 and 4, prompts from people who have built software over and over do not miss asking for architecture definition, testing, ops etc. People who don't code sure, they'll have to live and learn a bit, still so much easier

I think AI coding hype follows roughly four stages: 1. Amazement You try it and can’t believe how much code it generates from a few prompts. 2. Expansion You start more and more projects because shipping suddenly feels cheap and fast. This is also the phase where people start convincing everyone around them: - coworkers - management - friends in other companies because nobody wants to “fall behind” in 6–12 months. That creates a massive snowball/FOMO effect. 3. The grind phase You realize the generated code has architectural issues, sloppy mistakes, weird abstractions, duplicated logic, broken edge cases, etc. So you start: - re-prompting - switching models - increasing reasoning effort - reviewing fixes - generating fixes for previous fixes And suddenly you spend your days reviewing AI-generated pull requests instead of building software. 4. Realization You realize AI coding increases output much faster than it increases certainty. The code still needs: - review - testing - ownership - architectural understanding - long-term maintenance Usually by expensive senior engineers. And the interesting thing is: this whole cycle can take many months or even more than a year because people become socially and professionally invested in the narrative themselves. Once teams, managers, and entire companies have been convinced that this is the future, it becomes psychologically and politically very hard to later say: “Actually, the ROI is much lower than we expected.”

That's the user experience. The login took 4 clicks. The logout took 0. For threat actors it's also 0 click but that's off topic. I didn't ask to log out. I wanted to sign in. Microsoft decided for me. Microsoft knows what's best for their user base. Just like when they put Copilot in everything. Nobody asked. Everyone received. That's empowerment. That's empowerment. Parents, I need your opinion Ever since my son was born my house has been a disaster. It's not filled with trash, there isn't bugs, or anything like that. But, we have INSANE clutter and disorganization. We have mountains of boxes from Amazon we have to recycle, we go through TONS of trash bags now from dirty diapers and stuff. We are always behind on laundry. On top of all of this, we made the mistake of buying him tons of stuff my baby boy has already outgrown. We have mountains of clothing that already don't fit him. My wife and I have also been moving stuff around a lot. We have a bassinet in my office, his "bedroom" (nursery), which means other furniture is literally just pushed anywhere we can fit it. It's dizzying how much is changing and so fast. Did any of you have this problem? Was your house also a mess? My son is 8 months old and everything is happening so quickly I don't even know what's going on anymore. My sleep has been ATROCIOUS since he's been born which makes doing anything else difficult as well. We're first time parents, we planned for the baby, read the books, took the classes, prepared financially, did everything how you're "supposed" to do it and it's still been a whirling wind of chaos
