I’m terribly nervous about Toronto getting exactly what some predicted - the shaft - when it comes to venue selection for their Group Stage matches. This is the very first time this has been done. As in, the Draw happens, & the vast majority of matches could be in one stadium or another. I went to Euro 2016 - & had tickets for England/Wales in a stadium of 34K in Lens. If UEFA could, they would always schedule an England, Germany, Spain, Italy, France, in as large a venue as possible. But rules were rules, fair was fair - & it just doesn’t work that way. The two England matches could be at Toronto’s stadium, expanded from 33K to 45K, or FIFA can sell 95K tickets to England/Croatia where the Cowboys play, & 65K where the Patriots play. Does FIFA want 160K people to watch England in 2 Group matches or 90K? This feels an utter no-brainer. Germany not much different. Want them at Arrowhead in KC, or in Toronto? This determination to throw Toronto at least a couple bones will either satiate real soccer fans, or create tremendous unrest from BOTH fans, & those who didn’t want the city spending $400M (& rising) in the first place. I don’t have a true feel for it. But sending England, Germany, AND France to the larger NFL stadiums….look out. We’ll know soon. #FIFAWorldCup
