@matthewwalther Check out sandlot baseball. MLB and the gov't, joining forces to make baseball better? I don't see it happening. But ordinary people continuing to play the game and weaving it into the fabric of civic life gives me hope.

The influence of a President’s policies and decisions have lagging effects that sometimes take years to manifest. Guess who inherits the blame?

Progressive Texans have to work harder next time. We need stronger candidates in this state if we want to look like Georgia anytime soon.

Espn shares the betting lines and tells you how much money you can win on the #WorldSeries before the start of every game..meanwhile Pete Rose is still banned from baseball for betting on his team to WIN.

Tech sells innovation. But just because it comes on a screen, or in the cloud, doesn't make it the future. The reality is the industry's plagued by too few good, new ideas, a deep conservatism, and decisions driven mostly by fear of losing market share, influence, and power.

Product dream: the equivalent of an answering machine for texts to help manage time away from phone: Adam's phone is off right now or he's left it at home or perhaps thrown it into a lake. He'll get back to you soon, or maybe never.

It's normal to feel small when an insidious menace of wealth and power is attempting to seize control of your life and rule over you till the end of time.

Interesting. One of the responses mentioned that some healthcare providers in the US have begun to refer to 'patients' as 'customers' internally. I'm struggling to see what's wrong with patient though.

@Theoutsider_vpk @LeftonBomb Oooh interesting...yeah, I guess it does depend on context!

Personas are well intentioned, for sure. As are many of the other techniques that aim to add complexity to the "user." They help, but they don't solve the problems I'm talking about as much as they mitigate them (imo). Ultimately, I'm not ready to bank the future on personas.
Jason Arnold@obliviousgeek

@LeftonBomb @Medium Interesting read, but I don't really agree. You haven't addressed the other side of UX at all, user research, where you try to understand your users and develop/refine personas. From there I think it's reasonable to stop saying "users" and use the personas to guide discussions.

@LinusEkenstam So I'm hopeful that by ditching the words I'll be more open to that search. I'll also have to actively search for accurate language in day-to-day conversations, which I think will help.

@LinusEkenstam Likewise. I think we're too quick to label things. But what I'm really searching for is a more of a process, a framework that isn't fixated on use. I just don't think I can do that while still stuck on old words.

Hey! @LeftonBomb - liked your words on users. I'm a bit sad that we look for labels in the first place. You are searching to replace a label with a new one. To justify your own bias? or the bias of an industry? Are they customers? Are they simply put just humans?
