I was recently asked whether I am personally acquainted with Hon. Edem Agbana. To my knowledge, I have not had the privilege of meeting him. That said, regardless of personal connections, I believe it is important that we collectively speak out against misconduct and poor leadership. Accountability must be upheld at all levels of public office. #IStandWithEdemAgbana @askbagbin @benkoku @RichardSky @PhilipBonsu

🌱 From the Classroom to the Field: Shaping Ghana's Agricultural Future Last Friday, we had the distinct pleasure of welcoming students from the University of Ghana's Crop Science Department for an immersive, behind-the-scenes experience at our facility. From the precision of our Seed Cleaning machinery to the power of our Multi-Grain Thresher, students witnessed firsthand the technology and expertise that drive world-class seed production — bringing their academic knowledge to life in a meaningful and practical way. We believe that investing in the next generation of agricultural leaders is one of the most impactful contributions we can make to Ghana's food security. Today's knowledge becomes tomorrow's harvest. We look forward to continued collaboration with institutions shaping the future of agriculture in Ghana and beyond. #LegacySquare #LCIC #AgricultureGhana #FoodSecurity #SeedScience #FutureLeaders

It is becoming increasingly difficult to identify active seed companies operating in Ghana. One must ask: is the decline in activity a reflection of dwindling donor funding, or a broader reluctance to embrace the sustained effort that this industry demands? For the record, LCIC continues to forge ahead. The company is currently establishing a significant presence in Malawi and has recently been admitted as a member of AFSTA — the African Seed Trade Association — further cementing its commitment to advancing the seed sector across the continent.

During the AFSTA 2026 Congress held last week in Cape Town, South Africa, seed industry leaders and policymakers convened to deliberate on the future of this critical sector. Notably, Ghana's representation was limited to a single organization — Legacy Crop Improvement Centre — with no other seed companies present. This absence raises an important question: why were Ghanaian seed enterprises largely missing from such a significant continental gathering? The answer, unfortunately, points to a troubling reality — the lack of independent participation capacity, with most industry engagement remaining contingent on donor funding.

🌱 Ghana's LCIC Makes History on the African Seed Stage We are proud to announce that LCIC — Ghana's award-winning and dynamic seed company — has officially been inducted as a member of the Africa Seed Trade Association (AFSTA), following a landmark announcement at the 2026 AFSTA Congress held in Cape Town, South Africa. LCIC made history as the only seed company from Ghana to be represented at this prestigious continental gathering, underscoring the company's growing influence and leadership in Africa's seed industry. Adding to this milestone, Dr. Amos Rutherford Azinu, CEO of LCIC, had his article featured in the AFSTA 2026 Magazine — a recognition that further cements his status as a thought leader in the sector. Remarkably, Dr. Azinu is the only seed expert from Ghana to have an article published in the AFSTA Magazine for three consecutive years, a distinction that speaks volumes about his expertise and sustained impact across the continent. This achievement is a proud testament to LCIC's vision, excellence, and unwavering commitment to advancing seed science and agribusiness in Ghana and beyond. 🏆 Congratulations to the entire LCIC family. The future of African agriculture has a Ghanaian voice. #LCIC #AFSTA #SeedIndustry #Ghana #AfricaAgriculture #ProudMilestone

LCIC Plants Its Flag Across Borders: Legacy Crop Improvement Centre Acquires Malawi's Renaissance Seeds in Landmark Pan-African Expansion The Ghana-based seed business entity eyes continental seed industry dominance with strategic cross-border acquisition In a bold move set to reshape the seed business landscape of sub-Saharan Africa, Legacy Crop Improvement Centre (LCIC) Limited, headquartered at Legacy Square in Otareso, Ghana, has officially announced the acquisition of Renaissance Seeds of Malawi — a strategic transaction that signals LCIC's unwavering commitment to empowering Africa's seed industry from the ground up. The acquisition marks a watershed moment for Ghana's seed sector and represents one of the most significant cross-border seed industry consolidations in West and Southern Africa in recent memory. Renaissance Seeds, known across Malawi by its trusted tagline "Akatswiri opanga MBEWU" (Masters of Seed Production), has long been a cornerstone of smallholder farming communities in Southern Africa, providing high-quality, affordable seed varieties that have transformed livelihoods across the region. A Union Rooted in Purpose Founded with the vision of empowering Ghana's — and indeed Africa's — seed industry, LCIC has steadily grown into one of the continent's most respected crop improvement institutions. Operating from its flagship facility at Legacy Square, Otareso, the centre has invested in research, seed multiplication, and capacity building, earning a reputation as a beacon of seed innovation in Ghana. The acquisition of Renaissance Seeds is a natural extension of LCIC's mission. By bringing a proven seed brand with deep roots in Malawi under its umbrella, LCIC gains immediate market presence, distribution networks, and technical expertise across Southern Africa — effectively doubling its geographic footprint overnight. Strategic Significance for African Agriculture Africa feeds over 1.5 billion people, yet the continent remains heavily dependent on imported seed technologies. Transactions like this acquisition are exactly what the African agricultural sector needs — a homegrown consolidation that keeps intellectual capital, profits, and agricultural destiny within African hands. With LCIC's established research infrastructure and Renaissance Seeds' operational strength in Southern Africa, the combined entity is uniquely positioned to accelerate the development and distribution of locally adapted, climate-resilient seed varieties — a critical need as African farmers face increasingly unpredictable weather patterns driven by climate change. What This Means for Farmers For smallholder farmers from Accra to Lilongwe, the LCIC-Renaissance Seeds union promises practical benefits: wider access to commercial, high-yielding seed varieties; strengthened technical advisory services; and the economies of scale that come with a larger, better-resourced organisation. The acquisition is expected to create new employment opportunities in both Ghana and Malawi, further stimulating local agricultural value chains. "This acquisition is not merely a business transaction — it is a declaration that Africa's seed industry belongs to Africans. Together with the Renaissance Seeds family, we will build a legacy that feeds generations to come." — Dr Amos Rutherford Azinu, Founder, Legacy Crop Improvement Centre (LCIC) Limited Looking Ahead The combined organisation will operate under the strategic oversight of LCIC's leadership, with Renaissance Seeds continuing to serve its existing Malawian customer base under its established brand identity. Both teams are expected to collaborate on joint research initiatives, cross-pollinating their expertise to develop the next generation of seed solutions for African farmers. Industry observers are closely watching the transaction as a potential template for further intra-African agricultural consolidation — a trend that aligns with the African Union's Agenda 2063 vision for a prosperous, food-secure continent driven by its own enterprises. About Legacy Crop Improvement Centre (LCIC) Limited LCIC is a Ghana-based seed business entity dedicated to empowering Ghana's seed industry through research, crop improvement, and farmer development programmes. Headquartered at Legacy Square, Otareso, Ghana, LCIC works with farmers, governments, and development partners across the continent to ensure food security through access to quality seeds and agronomic knowledge. About Renaissance Seeds Renaissance Seeds is a Malawi-based seed company with a strong presence among smallholder and commercial farmers across Southern Africa. Known for its commitment to quality and farmer-centred values, the company has built a trusted brand synonymous with reliable seed production and superior crop performance. Great Minds, One City: A Morning Encounter in Lilongwe 🤝 This morning, I had the pleasure of meeting with Dr. Felix Jumbe, CEO of Peacock Seeds Malawi, in the heart of Lilongwe — one of Africa's most dynamic and fast-growing capitals. Dr. Jumbe's leadership in the seed industry continues to shape the agricultural landscape of Malawi and the wider region. It was an honor to reconnect and gain fresh perspectives from a true industry leader. Moments like these are a reminder that the most valuable conversations often happen face to face. 🌍 #Agribusiness #Leadership #Malawi #Networking
