A 7-year-old Pennsylvania girl's parents have filed suit against HHS to improve her ranking on a heart-transplant list after she experienced multiple emergencies this year. Her situation has been complicated by in-home care and illness, and she asks the federal agency to arrange recipients in order of need instead of how long they have waited. legalnewsline.com/pennsylvania-r…

A three-judge panel on the Michigan Court of Appeals has ruled that a man can sue a Michigan play center for injuries he sustained after doing backflips in a Scooby Doo bouncy house, despite the fact that a label at its entrance said "NO flips." One of the judges registered his dissent, citing the plaintiff's initial claim that he was an experienced flipper who didn't require supervision. legalnewsline.com/newsletter/mic…

California's new mid-decade congressional district map, which heavily favors the state Democratic Party, will be considered by a panel of L.A. federal court judges. In question is whether the map is constitutional. SCOTUS' recent ruling against racial gerrymanders may also come into play. legalnewsline.com/northern-calif…

Texas AG Ken Paxton's office is investigating popular music streaming platforms to determine if they've been involved in payola schemes to promote certain musicians and their work, which would violate Texas law. Paxton vowed that if any companies are found to have accepted such bribes, "they will be held accountable to restore fairness and integrity in the music industry.” legalnewsline.com/southeast-texa…

In a 2-1 decision, the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals voided a U.S. District Court judge's injunction blocking DHS and ICE from deploying tear gas against violent anti-ICE protesters. A lawsuit had claimed that the use of tear gas and non-lethal munitions to quell anti-ICE riots violated the constitutional rights of people who live near the sites of such riots. legalnewsline.com/northern-calif…

Illinois House Dems recently advanced Speaker Chris Welch's proposed state constitutional amendment enshrining race-based redistricting. In a ruling the Pacific Legal Foundation called "a win for every property owner along California’s coast," the California Supreme Court unanimously found that the California Coastal Commission lacks the authority to override local governments' development permits. The Commission had been accused of amassing too much power over the past few decades, bolstered by lower courts ruling in its favor. legalnewsline.com/northern-calif…

Last month, Florida GOP Rep. Laurel Lee introduced a joint resolution proposing an amendment to the U.S. Constitution dictating that only U.S. citizens can vote in federal elections. It would establish a nationwide voting standard when it comes to federal – not state or local – elections. Polling has shown that such an amendment, and a general policy of citizens-only voting in federal elections, has broad support among the U.S. public. legalnewsline.com/florida-record…

The U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals found that a district court incorrectly concluded that a Texas law requiring the 10 Commandments to be displayed in public school classrooms violates the First Amendment. The ACLU says it plans to ask SCOTUS to reverse the decision, but AG Ken Paxton, who defended the law before the 5th Circuit, heralds the ruling as "a major victory for Texas and our moral values." legalnewsline.com/southeast-texa…
