If you describe what is occurring in the US as a “coup” or “fascism,” or refer to the elected government as a “regime” (left or right), I have deep contempt for you. Your cosplaying as oppressed makes light of the suffering of those who have lived under actual authoritarianism.

Consider the possibility that Piker is actually quite dumb. Then consider the possibility that he is still able to outsmart his audience.

@OldSchoolDemz @Legal_Fil @JoshKraushaar @jonfavs The difference would be the Republican would just brag about it, not apologize for their ignorance and then cover it up while having a long history of being against anti-Semitism

I think if one is trying to figure out if a candidate is sympathetic to Nazis, one of the most important tests is whether the candidate knowingly got a death’s head tattoo signifying an elite, brutal group of SS officers and kept it until the second he wanted to run for Senate and someone noticed. It’s an insult to everyone’s intelligence to suggest otherwise. Sorry, his Medicare thoughts from last week are not permanent body art or absolution.
Jon Favreau@jonfavs

As the community note makes clear, I didn't delete it because I stand by it. But if MAGA world has decided their best play is to insult Mainers' intelligence by trying to fool them into thinking Platner's old tattoo makes him a Nazi sympathizer, best of luck in November!

This is insane. A 9:52pm order demanding an update by 7:30am? In what world does Judge Reyes seriously believe it will be possible to get a responsive answer from the client by then? This kind of stuff just smacks of performativity and bias, especially given how low stakes it is.
Kyle Cheney@kyledcheney

JUST IN: Judge Reyes has demanded a Trump administration response by *7:30am* and a hearing at 8am on a claim that Trump is pursuing major redevlopment of DC-based golf courses, despite assurances that no work was underway.

We make a mistake in thinking it is laziness behind the offloading of thought. We increasingly have a population that is weary of moral agency and maybe even of sentience. So they just accept whatever allows them to slip the burden of agency.
Corey Walker 🇺🇸@CoreyWriting

The fact none of these people can make an affirmative case for "genocide" themselves and keep having to offload thinking onto human rights groups shows their laziness. All of these groups are ideologically captured. I stopped believing experts and "groups" after their COVID lies.

@DastDn Genocide, Nazi, racist, fascist, and communist. All terms that knaves have been abused to gain ephemeral rhetoric advantages with idiots. All terms that are being stripped of meaning, making it harder to warn each other of actual bad actors.

Favreau has made his choice. He has chosen to side with antisemites because he believes in nothing but power. The rest of us can choose better.

“I stand by calling the guy with a Nazi tattoo (and who praises antisemites) decent, even though his ex-campaign manager said this about Platner’s “old” Nazi tattoo.”

@mr_flippers121 It’s just so clearly an issue on which decent people just need to say “enough,” regardless of which side it is coming from. We can’t just be quiet as we all see this filth taking root here. I don’t want a country of Platners, Carlsons, and the rest.

@Legal_Fil I appreciate how unwavering you are on this issue. I think people are skipping over this and it’s one of the most glaring cases of hypocrisy in some time.

The support we are seeing for Platner—despite his being beyond the pale for any person with a sense of decency—is a long warned-of fruit of the abuse of language. When you use “Nazi” solely for its normative valence, you eventually strip of its normative content. 1/

@awstar11 “Anti-fascists” abusing language to deflect from their being reprobates is not particularly new, but they still somehow find ways to sink lower.

They quickly clarified that “Nazi shit” does not include cheering on pogroms, assaulting people simply for wearing yarmulkes, or getting concentration-camp guard tattoos.

@Legal_Fil Again. Just because you don't know doesn't mean it wasn't a bad post. I am not 100% sure I even said you supported Platner, just that you were blaming the Jews for his rise. Too lazy to double check. Either way, I now see it was just bad logic. You are fie.

@spressto You keep misunderstanding my posts, which I don’t even understand how it is possible. I am not saying it is Jewish people who misapplied the term. I am saying dishonest others have. And they are now claiming that having a Nazi tat means nothing, which is insane.

@Legal_Fil Jesus christ stop blaming us. JEWS don’t call everyone Nazis. And “normative valence” should be evergreen for SS Death Head tattoos. Whatever the hell that pretentious mumbo jumbo means. Hateful anti-american white male sounding clown.

@slayabidesD0TL It’s even worse than that. People now assume the charge is dishonest, so partisans see the label as a reason to back whomever on their side gets labeled it. But there actually are some awful people out there!

@Legal_Fil This is a great point. Everyone started calling people they don’t like Nazis. It was reserved for right wingers. Then the left started embracing literal terrorist Nazis and now you sound like the boy who cried wolf if you say it.

@smod4real An acquaintance said he used to refer to it as “my totemkamf” and a former campaign manager said he was a history buff and that it was ridiculous to say he didn’t know its meaning. He also praised podcasters with a history of antisemitic remarks.

@Legal_Fil I’ve be not been in the weeds on Platner, but is the tattoo the only basis for calling him a Nazi or is there more to it?
