The King this morning received Flight Lieutenant Colin Bell for an audience at Buckingham Palace. Now 105 years old, Flt Lt Bell was a RAF Mosquito pilot during World War II. He gave a book about his experiences to His Majesty today. During the audience, The King presented Flt Lt Bell with the citation to his Distinguished Flying Cross, which was originally awarded to him by King George VI in 1945.

Thnx @Taff_Gillingham for passing on the sad news of Maj Gordon Corrigan's death yesterday. Corrigan-Sahib was a British Army Institution, much loved at Sandhurst, in Hong Kong, & by the Indian Army and all Gurkhas. Always colourful & controversial, time with Gordon whether in person or via his many books or TV documentaries was always entertaining, informative & never wasted.

Great weekend with the boy. Good thrashing in the gym and a boxing session for him. Muay Thai is normally his thing but he wants to enter a charity boxing event this summer. 16 years old, he’s growing and growing fast!!!

I hadn’t realised just how run down our armed forces had become, until I read this piece over the weekend from the former head of the British military. We now have one tenth of the combat planes we had during the Cold War. We have swapped the ability to wage warfare for welfare.
