Try to do some good in the world and spend a lot of time with your friends and family. There, that feels much better as a pinned tweet than something about me.

I wrote about the recently re-published 1941 novel, The Bitter Roots, for the The Pulp. It's a fascinating book that explores masculinity in the context of WWI and class/labor conflict in the American west (Missoula, MT). @bhousepress thepulp.org/the-bitter-roo…

This picture, by ChatGPT, is called "Hellscape Created by the Lack of Local News." But guess what ChatGPT cannot do? Local news - which is why I'm fundraising for The Pulp for Missoula Gives. Please send a little (or a lot!) of money their way if you can! missoulagives.org/p2p/426778/lei…

@DangerBrooks Even if it were 100% a matter of free will, why would someone care if someone else loses weight by using these drugs? Is this a "I really care about those people and think they would be healthier if X, Y, Z" ? (I'm dubious). Or is this a "slouching toward Gomorrha" thing?

I largely agree with TCW in this series of third-rail posts, but I also think given the massive, country-specific increase in American obesity over the last 30 yrs, systemic forces must be at play. I believe in free will, but you have to opt in to it, and most people don't.

Tangentially, I am flabbergasted that working out and being as natural as possible in your approach to weight optimization is seen as right-wing. And that maybe a dozen people at least have gone so far as to argue—seemingly in earnest—that there is no such thing as free will.

Would any of you historians out there be interested in a paid student assistant for the summer? It's a program run by a scientist at Los Alamos that pairs HS students with researchers. And they have some students who want to do history! I can give more details... Please share!

"Why normal music reviews no longer make sense for Taylor Swift" is that she's really popular. Why do you want to write about music, then? This essay is a document of the failure of criticism since streaming started. newyorker.com/culture/cultur…
