Grateful to have facilitated this session with @LemMindfulness. Every time we explore the roots of depression, we’re reminded that healing begins with awareness, compassion, and listening to the child within. @healthylifeeac @EducateAble

Healing begins when we listen to our stories, our children, and the child within. This week, we joined @LemMindfulness for “The Early Roots of Depression”, a powerful reflection on how childhood experiences shape adult mental health. @healthylifeeac @EducateAble @namitadas21

Did you know? Deaf and Hard of Hearing people are twice more likely to experience mental health issues such as depression, anxiety and low self esteem. This is primarily due to discrimination, stigma, exclusion and communication challenges. We can do something however: - Learn some basic sign language. By doing so the deaf /Hard of hearing person feels actually valued. - If using an interpreter, DO NOT ADDRESS THE INTERPRETER, address the deaf / Hard of Hearing person directly. - Actively involve yourself in creating awareness about the rights of people with disabilities. - As a counsellor or mental health professional, make your services easily accessible and inclusive. (We are often left out and yet these services are much needed) - Familiarize yourself with basic disability communication etiquette and language. This can prevent unintentionally offending someone. - Lastly, always ask how you can help. Individualized support is the best support. #BetterTogether
