@BillyM2k Creativity requires wiggle room. Budgets are so tight now that developers aren't willing to risk being creative if it means making potentially something unpopular and going out of business. Also shareholders taking over AAA has been really bad for gamer culture.

i was watching all these videos about how people used to make video games with all the limitations they had in the NES and SNES eras and those guys were straight up geniuses nowadays we can make anything and we just make crap

@End0ric It's interesting... While I myself am passionate about both art and software engineering, it's no longer an entry to prosperity like it once was anyway (aka good luck getting accepted). You're doing yourself a favor by sticking to what you love rather than chasing dollars.

Don't do things solely to satisfy others' expectations of you. You won't be happy that way. Focus on where you want to see yourself, and make that vision happen. At least try. I believe that if there's genuine passion and hard work, there's success.

Sorry, this was a bad post. It lacked crucial context and clarity. It wasn't about software engineering. I tried to show the irony of choosing a career path that clearly contradicted my efforts. Familial pressure to make big money drove me to "want" to do software... (contd.)

Don't overanalyze. Just do. The faster you get to executing, the faster you can make and learn from the mistakes that you'll inevitably make. Then, you can correct your practice. Sometimes, the fastest way to be right is to be wrong.

@atmoio I don't expect anyone to see this but I'll write anyway. I'm a 4.0 student, BS in CS, propped up to be a star employee--no interview, ever. I've never had this "engineer" luxury you speak of. I've learned to adapt w/ AI, not as a tool but as a teacher. My work is still my own.

I was a 10x engineer. Now I'm useless.
