@NewCor18146 How many of the Labour governments target of building nearly 5,000 houses a year would be for Cornish residents. What percentage would end up being 2nd houses and Airbnb's, as well as few being affordable for Cornish families. This gov't is out of touch with reality. Devolution.

Not just the Lakes Tim. Some 20% of Cornwall's housing is Airbnb's and 2nd houses (not homes) Now gov't want to build even more 80,000. Who for the Cornish ask? Not us we can't afford them so housing issues will continue no matter how many houses the gov't orders to be built〓〓
Tim Farron@timfarron

The collapse of the long-term private rented sector into short-term holiday lets has resulted in many people not being able to afford to live and work in the Lakes. Local planning authorities must be given the powers to limit the number of short-term lets in their communities.

Well then Jim, give Cornwall what it asks for, full devolution with no mayor or Devonwall. Put your policies where your mouth is. Cornwall has tried wrestling power from Westminster for decades. Just do it, we've had enough waffle!! 〓〓
Jim McMahon OBE MP@JimfromOldham

Our agenda for local government reform and English devolution represents the biggest transfer of power away from Westminster to local communities across England for a generation. This restructuring will improve accountability, enable better frontline public service delivery, and put local government finances on a sustainable footing for the long-term.

@bbcmartynoates @Perran4CRH Quite right @Perran4CRH I'm afraid your leaders are so ideologically driven that they will not accept any dissention to any of their plans. Cornwall and the Cornish will not succumb to a Labour government imposition of Devonwall or a mayor. Full devolution is the only way forward

"It would be a very risky business to impose devolution on any particular area...particularly an area that has national minority status" - Camborne & Redruth MP Perran Moon @Perran4CRH on the idea the Govt might use new ministerial powers to impose a Devon & Cornwall mayor.

@TulipHeather @DailyPicTheme2 The border of Cornwall is historically on the eastern bank of the River Tamar as set by King Æthelstan in 936. So you are still in the hallowed land of Kernow. English map makers put the border up the middle of the river. In this case a water grab😁

This man is a buffoon. I'm sure most reasonable English people will be able to learn to pronounce Welsh names. How will it disenfranchise voters? Is there a test before they vote to see if they can pronounce the name of their constituency? Bi-lingual, how much Welsh do you know?
Andrew RT Davies@AndrewRTDavies

These constituency names will disenfranchise English-only speakers. Wales is bilingual and the Boundary Commission must reverse this decision.

We may not be able to comment on this dorks post but we can share our views. The country did not vote for much of what's taking place by Labour. They voted as a protest against the Tory's. Don't worry Jim the electorate will judge Labour in every council election and by- election
Jim McMahon OBE MP@JimfromOldham

The work to repair the foundations, bring in consistent and accountable structures, and shift decision making outwards is not the end in itself. It is a means to realising the change the country voted for, and which the electorate will judge the government on.

Wonderful for those keeping their jobs. What about businesses that will close, lay people off or not take on new employees. Wage increase leads to NI increase, Pension increase etc. This on top of increase in employers NI. Have Labour ministers actually run their own business'?
Rachel Reeves@RachelReevesMP

25 years ago the last Labour Government introduced the Minimum Wage. This year we confirmed a £1,400 increase for 3 million workers on the National Living Wage. A fair wage for a day’s work, that's the difference a Labour Government makes. #amp-readmore-target" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">mirror.co.uk/news/politics/…

@CllrDickCole It may appear to go against the interests of Cornwall in the short term, but caving in to join with Devon would have long term negative impact on Cornwall, Cornish national minority and its wider cultural heritage. Cornwall would soon become totally subsumed by England. Never!!

COMMENT ON WHITE PAPER 2 The document is promoting three tiers of devolution. Cornwall would be caught on tier 1 with very limited powers, unless it joins up with other local authority areas to the east. They also want such areas to have a population of over 1.5 million people.

Cornwall's politicians are united against Westminster governments Devonwall preference. Hopefully none will wimp out and if not agreed for Cornwall to have its own unique deal to match its NM Status Cornwall's 4 Labour MP's will vote against the Bill 〓〓 bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

@eleonorasfalcon @Walesguy2 @GarethReformUK Perhaps Sue you should properly learn English. It's their not there! Plenty of people in Wales have spoken Welsh for generations. It's time for Celtic nations to regain their heritage from English domination. Are English speaking people to thick to learn place names?

The proposed new Welsh Parliament (Senedd) constituencies are set to be named in Welsh. This will only cause confusion for many people in Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿During July’s general election, many people told me they couldn’t find Carmarthen on the constituency list. I had to explain that it was listed as Caerfyrddin (Carmarthen in Welsh). I strongly believe they should be bilingual for accessibility and inclusivity in constituency naming. While many people in Wales are familiar with Welsh place names, not everyone may recognise them immediately, particularly in areas where English is more commonly spoken. Making the new constituency names bilingual could help ensure clarity and avoid confusion, especially for those unfamiliar with the Welsh names To have your say the @democracycymru consultation is opened for 4 weeks. 👉 dbcc.gov.wales/reviews/12-24/… @reformparty_uk @RUKWales #ReformUK #Wales

COMMENT ON WHITE PAPER 3 Now is not the time to be defeatist. Now is the time for one & all to come together to campaign & demand greater powers for Cornwall through a meaningful democratic settlement, similar to those secured in Wales & Scotland. Cornish Devolution Bill now.

Hopefully Cornish Labour MP's will persuade the Westminster government to ensure Cornwall with its legally acknowledged national minority has a special deal. Otherwise like the Tory's in the last election they are likely to be swept away in 2029.
Cllr Dick Cole@CllrDickCole

Following the publication of the White Paper, it was good to see MPs @Perran4CRH & Noah Law raising our national minority status with @JimfromOldham. We need to campaign to turn the minister's comment about a more nuanced approach to devo for Cornwall into something meaningful.

Another nail in the coffin of town centre's in Cornwall as Cornwall Council decide to sell off 25 car parks to private operators. Already more people are going to out of town shopping centres, such as Kingsley Village etc., cornish-times.co.uk continued...

Newquay for example cannot rely on the tourist season which is much diminished with people staying and spending at the holiday parks outside the town. More empty shops unless people are encouraged into the town centres for shopping and leisure activities with reasonable parking.
