Yes! (Although *sometimes* Lynch does just dangle a weirdo in front of us in isolation, for a moment). I’m gonna do a little thread of photographers he cited as influences – it’s interesting to see where he took their work. Here’s Diane Arbus, who you’d think was working off him.

@roryisconfused Interesting to think about Arbus as an influence on Lynch, something I somehow missed. Maybe it's because their respective uses of space are so different. She does this whole scrutinizing, specimen-like isolation and he tends to create new, expansive contexts for his characters.

So, Twin Peaks is in production & Lynch is up in Washington and hears that a particularly annoying ABC executive is coming for a set visit. The executive shows up in the morning and Lynch proclaims "You've got a great face! I'm gonna make you an extra. Get him to hair & makeup!"
