Based on this newspaper clip of 1977 and FESTAC history, here’s what happened: Why was the allocation of Festac Town houses cancelled? From the headline "ALLOCATION OF FESTAC HOUSES CANCELLED" and context from 1976-1977 reports, the main reasons given at the time were: 1. Over-subscription and Eligibility issues: Too many people applied and there were disputes over who qualified. The houses were meant for FESTAC participants, Nigerian workers/officers working at the festival, and later balloted to the public. The Housing Committee had to pause to "sort out" the list. 2. Construction not finished: The other story on the same page "FLATS TO BE READY AT THE FESTIVAL VILLAGE" shows workers were still on site. The FHA/Festival authority cancelled allocation "for the time being" until more flats were completed. Festac Village cost $80 million and was rushed to be ready for 1977. 3. Control and Standards: Chief Fortune Ebie, FHA Boss and Chairman of the Housing Committee, was also warning "NO ROOM FOR DIRTY TENANTS". The Government wanted to vet tenants to maintain the "model town" image for FESTAC guests. So it wasn’t a permanent cancellation. It was a temporary freeze to re-organize allocation, finish construction, and set rules before handing over 5,000+ units. After FESTAC '77, the Federal Government did allocate the houses by ballot to winners. FESTAC 77 was held Jan 15 - Feb 12, 1977

I can never rate you intellectually if you find Peter Obi inspiring in anyway or capable of serious leadership. His tenure of 8 years in Anambra is a public record and all his predecessors publicly confirmed how much of a disaster he was.

One day, we will flip the table. OSAS have been the one at the receiving end. Many questions have been thrown from warning verses. You guys should stay strong and be ready to see your "truth" fall when we bring questions against your conditional salvation. We will ask you to wrestle with the promising verses thesame way you have thrown the warning verses at us. Let's see the truth that stands at the end. Una gO cry for CT that day! I Don give una expo.... Start working hard!

@arojinle1 Well, the government has always provided certain levels of Aid to opposition candidates. Most Presidential candidates get certain security protection from FG. You can verify.

1982: Third Mainland Bridge Lagos: Abandoned for 8 Years: The Nigerian press famously dubbed the unfinished structure the "Bridge to Nowhere." Construction of the Third Mainland Bridge stalled in 1980 and its unconnected concrete spans stood abandoned over the Lagos lagoon until Phase II construction finally resumed in 1988. The massive 11.8-kilometer infrastructure project was originally conceptualized in 1970 with construction starting September 1976 and the first phase was commissioned by President Shehu Shagari on 1st October 1980. After 8 years of political instability and stalled funding, the completed bridge was ultimately inaugurated by Military President General Ibrahim Babangida on August 17, 1990. September 1976; Construction began on bridge: October 1980: President Shehu Shagari commissions phase 1 of the bridge. 1980-1988: Project is abandoned, leading the press to nickname it the "Bridge to Nowhere. 1988: Phase two construction is revived by General Babangida. 1990: Bridge is completed and officially opened by General Ibrahim Babangida. Reserves stood at roughly $1 billion in 1960, dropped to $0.11 billion by 1967 due to the Civil War, then surged to $3.5 billion in 1970 and $5.0 billion by 1980. The Central Bank Governor of Nigeria was Roy Pentelow Fenton. He was a British national who served as the first Governor of the bank from 1958 to 1963 while the Federal Finance Minister then was Chief Festus Okotie-Eboh.

At the Vatican Museum, Madam noticed that all the sculptures depicted men that were…erm…rather small down there. I first got her to confirm that they were smaller than Ezemmuo and then, having cleared any doubts, I ordered her to say 10 Hail Marys. 😂

Oba Adesoji Aderemi, the Ooni of Ife, famously acquired his iconic Rolls Royce Phantom V in 1962. He was Ooni for 50 years from 1930-1980. He prominently utilized the vehicle during his time serving as the first indigenous Governor of the Western Region. Now You Know.

They loved the newly built Festac Village During the historic FESTAC '77, the Festival Village truly served as the beating heart of the event. Artists and delegates from over 50 countries would gather in the evenings to practice, turning the grounds into a vibrant, open-air rehearsal space before heading to the National Theatre in Iganmu, Lagos. The beautifully designed estate easily won the hearts of the global delegates who stayed there.

The fed Gov’t has increased WAEC & NECO fees to 50k, something that barely reached 15k before Tinubu. Wait & see how APC supporters will ask us to sing Tinubu’s praises, if tomorrow Tinubu introduces a loan for students writing WAEC & NECO, or slashes the fee to 20k.

FG Increases WAEC, NECO Examination Fee From N27,500 to N50,000 for 2027 The Federal Government has approved a new examination fee of N50,000 for candidates sitting the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and National Examinations Council (NECO) Senior School Certificate Examinations (SSCE), with the new rate taking effect from 2027. The approval was contained in a June 18 statement signed by Adeniji Ibrahim, Director of Senior Secondary Education at the Federal Ministry of Education. It followed a request by WAEC for an upward review of the SSCE registration fee. The new fee represents an 82% increase from the current N27,500 charged per candidate. According to Ibrahim, the decision was reached after a March 31, 2026 meeting between the Minister of Education and examination bodies, where the need to review examination fees was discussed. He said the minister also directed both WAEC and NECO to adopt a uniform examination fee. “You may recall that at a meeting of examination bodies held with the honourable minister of education on 31 March, 2026, where the need for upward review of examination fees was discussed, the honourable minister directed that WAEC and NECO should adopt a uniform fee for the conduct of WAEC and NECO SSCE,” the statement read. It added, “Consequently, I am directed to convey the honourable minister of education’s approval of the sum of fifty thousand naira (N50,000.00) only, as the new examination fee per candidate, with effect from NECO SSCE (Internal), 2027.” The ministry said the directive should be communicated to all relevant stakeholders.

South Korean vs. Nigerian stock markets: which one is performing better? Context is key. If you invested in the local currency, Naira, in the NGX ASI on 2nd January 2026, your return would be 54% YTD. A South Korean investing in the KOSPI on 2nd January would be at 80%. However, If you took $, converted it to Naira, and invested on 2nd January, then sold in July and converted your Naira back to $, you would be at 68%. A South Korean investing in the KOSPI in $ on 2nd January, then converted to Won and sold in July, converting the Won back to $, would be at 66%. That 68% gain in Naira is a Naira gain return, not purely earnings. Context.
