Voyager 1, launched in 1977, will reach 1 light-day from Earth this year in November. Voyager 1 has been flying for nearly 50 years at 38,000 mph. One light day means radio signals traveling at the speed of light take 24 hours to reach it. When engineers send a command to Voyager 1, they wait two full days for a response one day out, one day back. Voyager 1 was launched in 1977 powered by a plutonium RTG that generates roughly 4 watts of usable power today less than an LED bulb. On that power budget it is transmitting data across 24 light hours of interstellar space to a 70 meter antenna on Earth. It has now traveled farther from Earth than any human made object in history, moving at 17km per second, and it still calls home every day. The most distant thing humanity has ever touched is a 47 year-old spacecraft running on 4 watts, and we can still hear it.

Right beside it sits the spring-loaded arm meant to test the compressibility of Venusian soil.Now zoom in on the exact spot where that arm deployed.See the small, silver disc lying there?That's the lens cap.By an absurd cosmic joke, the ejected cap landed in the single precise location the probe needed to sample the ground. Instead of probing an alien world, Venera 14 spent its final minutes dutifully measuring the mechanical properties of its own discarded lens cap.The lander was designed to last 32 minutes. It endured 57 minutes in that nightmare environment—long enough to capture this panorama, analyze the atmosphere, and (ironically) "sample" its own hardware—before the heat finally cooked its electronics beyond recovery.No spacecraft has returned color images from Venus's surface since.These fleeting 57 minutes remain our entire color visual record of another planet's surface. Blijft toch bijzonder: of je vult je box 3 vermogen met de waarden per 1-1 in en je krijgt vrijstelling van 58k. Of je kiest voor werkelijk rendement laten berekenen en dan geen vrijstelling van toepassing. Terwijl we dat in 2028 wel gaan krijgen als wetsvoorstel Wet wordt!

En voor de jaloerse mensen: ja, ben gisteren wéér uit eten geweest en heb heerlijk gerijsttafeld met mijn studievriend Richard. Het was goed om even de zorgen te delen over onze ouders voor wie wíj nu de zorg dragen. En ook om stil te staan bij onze mooie gezinnen. Onze rijkdom.

Ik draai al aardig wat jaren mee in het fiscale vak maar dit is 1 van de meest smerige regelingen die men er doorheen heeft geramd. Zo vreselijk onrechtvaardig. 🤡🤬
