If this is all true and all the other reports coming out are true, this is a massive massive massive victory for President Trump. Basically nobody — I repeat, nobody (from senators to world leaders and more with very rare exception) — thought President Trump could accomplish all of this. The few who did include the Prime Minister of Greece, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government in Iraq, the Prime Minister of Qatar, and a handful of others. Most thought Trump would just agree to a watered down version of the JCPOA (Obama Iran deal). By all indications, this emerging agreement is far better than that and actually accomplishes what Barack Obama could not: Trump seems to have stopped Iran from getting a nuclear weapon.

I welcome the progress towards an agreement between the US and Iran. We need to see an agreement that brings the conflict to an end and reopens the Strait of Hormuz, with unconditional and unrestricted freedom of navigation. It’s vital that Iran must never be allowed to develop a nuclear weapon. My government will continue to do everything we can to protect British people from the impact of this conflict. We will work with our international partners to seize this moment and achieve a long-term diplomatic settlement.

Wenn Trumps Worte von gestern Abend stimmen, dann wäre das Mullah-Regime der große Sieger dieses Krieges! Ein Krieg, der Iran ärmer, unsicherer und die Diktatur brutaler gemacht hat. Das Internet wurde abgeschaltet. Millionen verloren ihre Arbeit. Politische Hinrichtungen nahmen zu. Unschuldige Bürger , sogar Kinder – wurden getötet. Wichtige Teile der Industrie-Infrastruktur liegen in Trümmern. Und während das Volk leidet, reißt die Revolutionsgarde die Macht endgültig an sich. Die radikalsten Hardliner haben alle Rivalen verdrängt. Der Kampf gegen die Diktatur wurde nicht nur schwerer – sondern lebensgefährlich. Die Hoffnung auf ein freies Iran scheint heute ferner denn je.

We need a deal that truly de-escalates the conflict, reopens the Strait of Hormuz and guarantees toll free full freedom of navigation. Iran must not be allowed to develop a nuclear weapon. It must also end its destabilising actions in the region, directly or through proxies, as well as its unjustified and repeated attacks on its neighbours. Europe will continue working with international partners to seize this moment for a lasting diplomatic solution. And to contain the spillover of this conflict, notably on supply chains and energy prices.
