Agreed. And with regard to “the Jews” and the covenant, are we talking about certain genetic markers (there are Jews falling in every ethnic category in the world), or are we talking about a theological belief? And if it’s theological, which of the multiple branches of Judaism are we talking about? And more to the point, why would God be making promises to a religious belief that is specifically predicated on rejecting Him? Nothing about Zionism makes any sense from a Catholic perspective.

@LepantoInst What needs clarification is what CCC 839 and 840 actually mean, because both paragraphs suggest that the Jews still have a covenant with God and that they can achieve salvation outside the Church. (And I have heard it interpreted that way by priests).
