My first single-authored pub is out! In this paper, I contribute a life course perspective to the heterogeneous relationship between human capital and the upward occupational mobility of Chinese rural migrant workers, and reveal the cohort effect @BU_CISS kwnsfk27.r.eu-west-1.awstrack.me/L0/https:%2F%2…

📖🚀New paper with @YiangLi3 and Linda Waite. Ever wonder how your spouse’s childhood shows up in your life? Our “Linked Long Arms” framework shows early disadvantage can echo into later-life friendships, confidants, and community ties. More in doi.org/10.1016/j.ssre…

▶️ Watch: youtube.com/watch?v=dEvT91… Are Social Security rules fueling inequality? Dr. @DeborahCarr723's new research shows married seniors fare best but divorced & prematurely widowed especially women face late-life hardship. Reforms like caregiver credits might close these gaps.

Our new paper found off-time marital transition, featured by premature widowhood in China, is associated with higher likelihood of loneliness, whereas on-time marital transition, featured by midlife divorce in the U.S., is associated with less loneliness. doi.org/10.1332/175795…

How do evaluations in junior faculty hiring reproduce inequality? In this study, I propose a "Merit-Fit-Diversity" framework to unpack the academic gatekeeping process across sociology and business departments, and across private and public universities:  doi.org/10.1111/soin.7…

We show the disparities in social security benefits persist even after accounting for life course characteristics including human capital, labor supply, health, and socio-demographics. Grateful for such a rewarding collaboration with two fantastic mentors!

Social Security benefits rules disadvantage divorced and prematurely-widowed older adults (esp. women). Learn why in new WLS analysis (with L. Wang & P. Smock) @BU_Tweets @PopAssocAmerica @CCF_Families @geronsociety @ASA_SALC @asa_families @UWSoc academic.oup.com/gerontologist/…

Excited to share our new publication in @PNASNews! Through four analyses on 435,261 Weibo posts and 8.26 million news articles, we found that Chinese state media wasn't the main gatekeeper of information about Russia’s invasion of Ukraine for Weibo users: pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pn…
