Over the moon to share that I’ve been elected as an @EMBO member! This wouldn't have been possible without my fantastic mentors and collaborators, passionate past and present team members @kocuniversity, funding from @EMBO_YIP, @ERC_Research, @Tubitak and support of my family.

New preprint alert! We've uncovered the role of the microtubule-associated protein Ccdc66 in maintaining the stability and disassembly of the primary cilium. Our findings reveal how Ccdc66 depletion leads to unstable cilia and affects signaling pathways like Hedgehog and Wnt.

We are very sad to hear of the passing of Adelaide Carpenter, who had been in Genetics at Cambridge for over 30 years working mainly in our lab. A former full professor at UCSD, Adelaide came to Cambridge on sabbatical and never returned.  Continued below...

📢 ** New Paper Alert** We show that centriole 9-fold microtubule symmetry is not essential for centriole elongation, correct distribution of the centriole’s components along its length, and in initiating aspects of centriole duplication. @NatureComms nature.com/articles/s4146…

Reflecting on a decade’s journey from concept to reality, truly humbled to see work in embryo culture and in vitro assembly honored as „Method of the Year” by Nature Methods. Pioneering this path was a collaborative dream - never did we imagine such remarkable recognition

@bengeliscious I coundn't agree more! These Alok Tayi mindset is clearly a business oriented manager type scientist mindset. I might solve problems but less prone for really big discoveries.

I’m sorry but just NO. Who cares about discovering more about all existance? Uh, I do! If we only tried “to solve real & tangible problems”, then we would know nothing (and we would have an empty toolbox of knowledge for those scientists who do chose applied questions). Myopic🤦‍♂️
Alok Tayi@aloktayi

3/ All science must solve a problem. "Who cares" is something he'd ask every scientist in the lab and require all lab presentations to start with a quad chart. Every pursuit must have a real & tangible problem to solve.

I started a fundraising campaign for my birthday to buy nets for the ringing station I coordinate since 2014😁 I gathered 70% of the targeted sum (2000 eur). Feel free to chip in 😊 milvus.galantom.ro/p/martonattila…

@barabasi @dakotasmurray Well, in life sciences the basis of agreement is the significant difference between the control and experimental data. p value has to be higher than 5% or 1% to consider it as a significant difference. On this graph 0.61% is significantly different from 0.06% (or even 0%)?

Disagreement in science: Physicists and mathematicians live in a deep peace and agreement about their subject. They have certainty, whatever that means. When it comes to humanities, oh boy! Thanks @dakotasmurray for the great talk!

@CytoLabKoc We use Stellaris8 and indeed very user friendly, much easier to expand it (it was recently upgraded with two photon). The inbuild "lighning mode" does a kind of real time optimized deconvolution and the support is very much effective!

I am looking into buying a confocal microscope as part of my ERC #SatelliteHomesostasis grant. I am trying to decide between Zeiss LSM980 and Leica Stellaris 8 systems. If you have used them, can you vote? Comments on strengths/weaknesses will be higly appreciated.
