In-person teaching doesn't easily transfer to online teaching. School boards that think their teachers can just pivot to online teaching in a matter of hours don't give a damn about employee mental health.

Families please understand that not knowing whether you are teaching in-person or remote is like standing on a hammock. Should it be a snow day, we will encourage students to go outside and we will do our best while standing on a hammock. Be kind. @AllenbyPS @shelleylaskin @tdsb

Today our Grade 6 class imagined what it would be like to live alone and manage personal finances. If we were in charge, what kinds of decisions would we need to make? This thread explores how we created our budgets and some of the things we learned along the way! 🧵

Next, we used @nofrillsCA online grocery pickup website to price out one week's worth of food (and then multiplied by four to get the monthly cost). Some of us used other grocers or accounted for restaurant meals too! 🥪

All the expenses were based on real-life pricing. Students used @REALTORdotca to select actual rental properties within their means. Some went for the glamorous, some preferred the quaint, and some felt they didn't have much of a choice due to their budget limitations. 🏡

Using the provided template, students entered their monthly income and then had to decide how they would spend it! As students allocated funds for different categories, they could see their balances depleting on the bar graph tool. 📊

How much money did students receive? It varied! Students were randomly emailed a monthly income. They ranged from the after-tax income of someone earning full-time minimum wage to someone in Ontario's very top tax bracket. We didn't know what others earned to start off... 🤫
